I have seen the engagement and interest in the math concepts. I see it and I hear it in the classroom. The students sit on the carpet all quiet and listening attentively. Even my students that like to socialize and verbalize every thought, are quiet and are really interested in the story. The book that we have read are lending itself to promote higher level thinking. \r\nFor example we started reading a book explaining the importance of place value. We had a great discussion of how the \"Power of 10\" involves the place value holders, zero, and the decimals. We refer back to the story frequently. It lead into our current unit of multiplication. We are constantly saying \"THE POWER OF 10!\". This will help them internalize concepts and just makes math fun. Students started multiplying by thousands. I heard some students make connections and mention \"the power of 1,000!\" The book we read did not include this concept. Students are applying what they have learned to new concepts. \r\nThe art of story telling is helping my students stay engaged and excited to learn. They are now asking, \"What will the next book be, Mrs. Rodriguez?\" I place the current book we are reading in the unit on a stand labeled #Trending. Students go to the bookshelf when they wish to read the story again. \r\n\r\nMy class is truly appreciative of this opportunity that you have given us.","fullyFundedDate":1755207427925,"projectUrl":"project/learn-math-with-literature/9430862/","projectTitle":"Learn Math with Literature","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Rodriguez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4746308_272x272.png?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1504223776677","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4746308"},{"teacherId":7887579,"projectId":8556433,"letterContent":"Thank you all so much your donation to our project. Many of our students have improved their handwriting because these primary lines guide their letter formation. \r\n\r\nOne of my students has specific needs due to developing spatial awareness. He depends on the primary writing lines to stay organized and have legible handwriting. His occupational therapist has seen great improvement in letter formation and organization. My student is proud of his work and continues to show improvement everyday. \r\n\r\nAs we are stating to have conversations about becoming second graders, my students are taking pride in their work and continue to develop their handwriting and academic skills needed to become second graders in just three months!
