The goal of this project is to grow the bilingual library in our ESL classroom. With many of our students being newcomers to the United States, it is important that they feel welcome and accepted in our school. It is essential that they have access to academic content as well as quality literature. For most this means providing materials in their home language so that they can comprehend the material and successfully participate in class and complete assignments. With these new books, our students will have access to a larger variety and greater quality of literature. Our students will be able to use the "Quien Fue...? (Who was...?)" series to research and write biographies. They will be able to read and use the Harry Potter, Captain Underpants series' to engage in conversations with their peers. It has been proven that encouraging first language literacy promotes second language acquisition. By building this library and providing access to native language materials, we are providing another avenue for English language learning.
