We are now able to have brand new books that explore themes of identify and esteem written by people of color and women. That is a major feat and I am eternally grateful.\r\n\r\nAnother benefit of this project being funded is that our class received some exciting new flexible seating options. They are eager to sit in the reclining chairs and the high stools I was able to purchase with these funds.\r\n\r\nThe impact of your donation will be felt for years to come!\r\nI am incredibly humbled and honored that you chose to place your confidence and trust in my ability to meet the needs of my scholars through your donation. We promise to use these books and materials to focus on improved self-worth and to build confidence that we can achieve anything. Please know that you played a big role in that accomplishment!This program is important to meet the learning needs of students of color, because representation matters! Students need to see themselves in stories, so that they can become their own heroes and place no limits on their abilities and successes\r\nThere are never quite enough words or gestures that can capture the feeling a teacher gets when learning finally clicks in for a student. You can't exactly express what it means to a teacher when you lock eyes with a student who figures out a tough word, or better yet passes a level in reading. It's light trying to catch lightning in a bottle. But somehow, that feeling, that excitement and enthusiasm has been running rampant in my classroom this year thanks your generosity. The book arrived at the perfect time this year. Every student in my class has improved in their reading and is participating in the process of making meeting in deeper ways thanks to you!\r\n\r\nOne never knows where one's influence ends. I just may have a future Nobel Prize winner, astronaut, or engineer sitting in my room as I type these words. What I know for sure is, the positive influence of being a reader has begun with the purchase of these new books, with loving support from you!","fullyFundedDate":1764698917950,"projectUrl":"project/whole-books-whole-lives/9915098/","projectTitle":"Whole Books = Whole Lives.","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Brown","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp1505373_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1454078501000","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/shaylabrown"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_27701","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":849,"numTeachers":33,"percentFrplEligible":88,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":11,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":80,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"25.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":85.2,"schoolId":27701,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Lafayette Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Lafayette Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/long-beach-unified-school-district/lafayette-elementary-school/27701"}
