The amazing thing is that these magazines are in Spanish. This is really helpful since we are in a dual language program and students benefit from having literate in Spanish. This helps them see that literature around them is also provided in Spanish. This additional tool helps them better learn a new language. The topics are always interesting and my students always learn something new when we read them. They get very excited when they know we are going to read one. We also use the online platform a lot and they enjoy it. The most important part is that they love being able to take them home.","fullyFundedDate":1723662111943,"projectUrl":"project/engaging-weekly-readers-for-all-students/8555122/","projectTitle":"Engaging Weekly Readers for All Students","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Penaloza","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1388435_orig.jpg?crop=3464,3464,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1582786203125","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1388435"},{"teacherId":8024084,"projectId":8508388,"letterContent":"On behalf of our Lafayette Dual Immersion Kindergarten Classes we would like to thank you for your generous donation sponsoring our students with the Let's Find Out Weekly Readers from Scholastic. These readers have benefited our students who are learning in both English and Spanish.\r\n\r\nThe Weekly Readers have colorful pictures that enhance their interest on the subject matter taught throughout the month. The readers are also a great resource for high quality informational text that is developmentally appropriate for our kindergarten students. The students then use their reading strategies to track and decode what they read. As they read, they are excited to be able to identify many high frequency words as well as being able to repeat a patterned sentence. Kindergartners are very inquisitive and even our quiet students, English and Spanish learners start asking questions about the pictures. Their reading comprehension skills are also enhanced as the students answer the questions, which encourages them to pay more attention to what is being read. An added bonus is the digital platform that is included with the subscription that includes games, songs, dancing and additional activities.\r\n\r\nTeaching our language learners with the added resource of your donation of the Weekly Readers has allowed our students to learn new vocabulary and build knowledge by providing the text in both languages and building their own confidence to become better readers. Parents have also enjoyed how these colorful readers have helped their children become life long lovers of reading.\r\n\r\nThank you so much for your support of our Lafayette Dual Immersion classes!","fullyFundedDate":1721742061630,"projectUrl":"project/lets-read-to-succeed/8508388/","projectTitle":"Let's Read to Succeed!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Salazar","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8024084_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1657596416727","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8024084"},{"teacherId":4477702,"projectId":8711731,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for all your generosity! The Literacy Celebration was a success! We started our time with the families in our school auditorium, teaching them the benefits of reading to or listening to their child read. Then they went to the classrooms to learn how to do this from the expert teachers. The families were able to practice with their child and get feedback from the teacher. We ended our celebration on the playground with vocabulary games and the book giveaway. We had a huge selection of books, and thanks to you, we had a larger Spanish selection than we have ever had before. Families were delighted to choose new Spanish books to take home and add to their collection.
