As we progress through Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, my students are using their dry erase markers and erasers daily to map out our core reading strategies: predicting what happens to the next greedy child, clarifying Roald Dahl's inventive vocabulary, summarizing chapters, and questioning character motives. Most importantly, we are working hard on inferencing, using the text's subtle clues to \"read between the lines\" and understand the deeper themes of the story.\r\n\r\nOur classroom has blossomed into a vibrant studio where literature and imagination collide to create something truly magical. Currently, the students are channeling their inner illustrators by drawing detailed comics about the Oompa Loompas and designing their very own unique candy wrappers. The white cardstock and watercolor paper have been essential for these projects, providing a sturdy, professional-feeling base for their vibrant designs. We've even started using the adhesive foam and ink pads to create custom stamps for their individual \"brand\" logos! This allows them to see themselves not just as students, but as creators and engineers.\r\n\r\nI have been especially moved by my \"reluctant readers\"—the students who used to dread opening a book but now eagerly reach for their own copy of Charlie's adventures. Their eyes light up when they get to design a wrapper for a candy that \"makes you fly\" or \"tastes like Sunday dinner.\" Even though we haven't started our read-aloud of \"Wonder\" yet, having it ready for our next study keeps the academic momentum and excitement building. Your gift didn't just buy supplies; it bought a sense of belonging and a spark of joy that I hope that my students will carry with them long after the final page is turned.","fullyFundedDate":1766963624077,"projectUrl":"project/literacy-wonder/9938551/","projectTitle":"Literacy & Wonder","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Kainoa","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9577167_orig.jpg?crop=1921,1921,x225,y367&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1719449245494","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-kainoa"},{"teacherId":5137632,"projectId":9982536,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for all your support in giving our students the opportunity to learn with new STEM tools. Furthermore, the provision of healthy snacks and a clean space, maintained with the new paper towel holder, ensures their basic needs are met so they can concentrate fully on learning. Every funded item, from the kitchen measurement conversion chart used in practical math lessons to the adhesive hooks that organize our space, has fostered a sense of stability and professionalism, showing my students that their learning is valued.
