For your generous donation. My students have spent the first week of school diving into a true true literary classic, my side of the mountain. It has given us an opportunity to have productive conversations about new vocabulary and literary devices. Having books for all of my students has also given each student an opportunity to follow along and improve literacy. \r\n\r\nLast year, my students loved following along to the stories we read in class. However, they did not have a copy of their own to follow along in and at times they would get lost. Now, I can point to their own copy and show them where we are. Students are now more invested in the story and, without realizing it, their literacy is growing little by little. \r\n\r\nThere was a neck and neck vote between My side of the Mountain and Kiki's Delivery Service. These new resources are used constantly throughout our daily routines—during independent reading, focused small-group instruction, and interactive whole-class read-alouds. It has been a joy watching the children explore the shelves, discover topics that speak directly to their personal interests, and light up with pride as they choose their own reading adventures.\r\n\r\nYour gift has impacted far more than just our academic growth; it has nurtured our students' emotional development as well. \"The Little Dot\" books about emotions have become an invaluable cornerstone of our Social-Emotional Learning (SEL). These stories have given our young learners the language and tools they need to recognize, talk about, and manage their feelings in a healthy way. Seeing the kids connect with these characters and apply those lessons to their everyday interactions in the classroom has been truly inspiring.\r\n\r\nBeyond our own four walls, your generosity helped build meaningful connections across our entire school community. We partnered with 6th-grade reading buddies who came down to sit and share these books with our kindergarteners. For a group of students who work so hard to navigate daily challenges, seeing these resources arrive made them feel incredibly seen, valued, and celebrated.\r\n\r\nWe put these resources to work for a special community celebration to reward our students' hard work and great attendance. The shave ice station became the ultimate shared experience—students were laughing, comparing tongue colors, and cheering each other on as they customized their treats. It wasn't just about a sweet treat; it was a tangible reminder to them that \"being here\" matters and is worth celebrating.\r\n\r\nNow that we've had this amazing community-building moment, our next step is to channel this positive energy into our upcoming end-of-year goals.
