All 5th grade students were eager to explore the hands-on materials, and their curiosity grew the moment they realized they would get to use real tools to conduct experiments instead of just reading about them. For example, during a recent lesson on chemical reactions, students combined vinegar, baking soda, and powdered dish soap to observe how different substances interact. They measured, mixed, and recorded their observations as foamy bubbles spilled over their cups, making science come alive in a way that a textbook simply couldn't. What had once been an abstract concept turned into a hands-on investigation where every student felt like a true scientist.\r\n\r\nThe very first day we unpacked the materials, students' eyes lit up. Many of them asked, \"Do we really get to do this in class?\" It was a powerful moment to see their excitement turn into ownership and pride in their learning space. Students who are often quiet in class became leaders in small groups, guiding their peers through the steps of the experiment and sharing observations about the reactions. These resources made learning feel accessible and fun, creating a stronger sense of confidence in students who sometimes hesitate to participate.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, my students are preparing to expand on this experiment by changing variables, such as the amount of vinegar or the type of dish soap, to test how those adjustments affect the reaction. This next step will allow them to apply the scientific method—forming hypotheses, testing, and analyzing results—in a meaningful way. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, my students are not only learning about chemical reactions, but also developing critical thinking, teamwork, and problem-solving skills that will carry them far beyond the classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1746802523696,"projectUrl":"project/hands-on-science-materials/9288418/","projectTitle":"Hands On Science Materials","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Mercure","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10007109"},{"teacherId":5543244,"projectId":9128070,"letterContent":"Our students are enjoying being able to spread out throughout the classroom and do their learning flexibly using the yoga mats you provided our classes.
