I am currently in my 25th year of teaching mostly with second grade here at Kendrick Lakes Elementary School in Lakewood CO. I would like to begin with an apology for my unpunctuality in responding to you with my reflection, gratitude and also the details of the impact your generosity had on my classroom this year. There is no question that the profession of teaching has gotten busier and the pace and curriculum that is being asked to be taught has quickened, multiplied, and intensified. With that being said, the materials that Donors Choose allowed me to purchase and implement in my classroom were invaluable. I was able to gather materials like magnetic, hands on manipulatives for math, puzzling and thoughtful science experiments to spark creativity and intrinsic curiosity. The materials also included items to help with our access to learning through a variety of seating options, and a microphone to help with our capacity to share and listen. We brought in new reading materials that were relevant and in demand. The puzzles purchased have helped improve memory, problem-solving skills, and fine motor skills. They have helped build focus, concentration, and at times helped us manage our stress. We used the tornado simulator for our unit on weather, the rotating globe during our unit on landforms, and the fidget cube was and still is a necessary coping tool for several students on a weekly basis. It is amazing opportunity to have the chance to bring these items and activities to my students. Thank you so much for your support and confidence in making this chance come to light.
