We know many of our donors love to read but might not be as familiar with how we teach books in the classroom, so we're thrilled to share how your contributions have directly benefited our students. These new texts have allowed us to introduce crucial skills and lessons that go far beyond basic reading comprehension. Our new collection, filled with stories from diverse backgrounds and cultures, has become a powerful tool for teaching empathy and perspective. Students are learning to step into the shoes of characters who are different from them, helping them understand varying viewpoints and building a more compassionate community right here in our classroom. We're also using these more complex and engaging texts to move beyond simple comprehension and foster critical thinking and inference. Students are now reading between the lines, making inferences about characters' motivations, predicting outcomes, and analyzing themes—foundational skills they'll use in every subject. The wider range of books has also organically expanded our students' vocabulary and improved their reading fluency, as they encounter new words within the context of an exciting story.
