The premise of the donation request was to address the terrible fires that ravaged our beautiful city. We are located in the heart of Los Angeles at a special education center. Our students saw the fires on the news, saw the cloud of smoke outside and were able to smell the ashes. We were devastated. I sprang into action during class while the fires were raging, turned off the news, and started making art. I quickly realized that my students wanted to give back. I thought about activities that we could make and deliver to our local ladder 26- firefighters. Thank you so much to the donors for helping support this project. Once we got our materials, we got busy making \"thank you\" bracelets, watercolor art work, and other art work and cards to say thank you to our local heroes. \r\nMaking art during this very hard time was also crucial to student social emotional support. As a way to stay focused and calm during this hard time students really relished in slowing things down and making the art gratitude gifts for our community heroes. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.","fullyFundedDate":1738605532213,"projectUrl":"project/art-breaks-to-help-my-students-recover-f/9074435/","projectTitle":"Art Breaks to Help My Students Recover From Fire Emergency","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Christine","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3116231_orig.jpg?crop=1523,1523,x598,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1583793026283","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/theaterarts"},{"teacherId":1332018,"projectId":8974129,"letterContent":"Thank you for the knitting machine which gives us the opportunity to participate in our school's transitional program in a creative and fun way. Because of your generosity we were able to make things for our school's boutique, our friends and family, and our community! \r\n More specifically, we have assisted the staff in creating accessories by practicing our communication, fine motor and visual skills. We modeled the items, enjoyed watching the loom go round and round, and listened to the soothing clicks of the machine weaving the yarn in place. We veered toward making beautiful scrunchies this month, now that the spring season is approaching. However, we will branch out to other things, like coin purses, tea cozies or whatever the whims that may organically evolve as we learn more about our new tools.
