They love to eat the yogurt in the morning and the apple sauce and Goldfish as afternoon snacks. \r\n\r\nFurther, the mini refrigerator has been a huge support in our classroom. Before, I relied heavily on shelf stable snacks for students as I was unable to keep non shelf-stable snacks properly cooled. Now, I can purchase and save fresh and healthy snacks for students like apple sauce, fruit, and yogurts. Because I work at a Title I school, it is especially important to me that students have access to healthy snacks and food at school. \r\n\r\nYou truly made a huge difference in our classroom and we cannot thank you enough. The students love all of the books that you so generously donated. I opened the packages right away and placed them on our bookshelf to share with students; our classroom library needed fresh and engaging stories. \r\n\r\nWe have used these books in a variety of ways: reading as a whole group in a teacher-led read aloud style and reading independently in a student-led style. In our classroom, students have a choice as to how and what they read. They can choose their reading spots in the classroom, and they can choose to read the books that interest them. We also use many tools to allow students to be successful in independent reading. For example, students may use noise-cancelling headphones and a Book Nook privacy shield to improve focus. These tools aren't required, but are always available to students. Allowing for choice allows students to have ownership over their reading, which contributes to the notion of students finding joy in reading in the future. \r\n\r\nMy students truly love all the books you generously donated! They were so excited to see the new titles on our classroom bookshelf. Students especially enjoy the There Was An Old Lady books. They enjoy the rhyming and the sing-songy tone of the books. Students also especially enjoyed Angela DiTerlizzi's trilogy, including The Marvelous Now, The Magical Yet, and The Curious Why. Students enjoyed finding similarities and differences within the three books. They were also successful in tracing the themes across the three books and making connections based on their own experiences. \r\n\r\nStudents' parents have even told me that their children speak of the new books in our classroom at home! This shows me the impact that our work in the classroom has on students' lives. What we are doing in the classroom every day is powerful and meaningful. Books like these make a big difference in helping my students grow as readers and learners. Books bring learning and joy to the classroom and students' lives generally! \r\n\r\n\r\nYour kindness helps us build a warm and fun place to learn.
