We now have the capability to do STEM projects like never before, since receiving our CREALITY 3D Printer. The students' reactions to the unveiling of the printer were pure joy and excitement. They were ecstatic to say the least. They know 3D Printing projects have been a struggle due to lack of resources. This is now a problem of the past. Our initial project was to design our own backpack keychains and locker magnets. These are the initial prints that we are sharing with our thank you letters. Students learned how to take an idea, build it on a 3D platform like Tinkercad, and see it print out. There is a lot of problem solving when it comes to making a 3D idea come to life, and the students persevered in figuring out the best way to orient their designs, what supports they will need, the conversion of measurements, and more valuable life skills. I am very proud of their hard work, and I am thrilled at their enthusiasm and motivation.\r\n\tComing up, we will be designing Lanterns for Chinese Lantern Festival. Our school has many students with Chinese heritage, and we hold assemblies, family celebrations, and other activities in honor of Lunar New Year. This year, the students will be able to display their lanterns proudly at our family celebrations. This is a cultural tradition that many of our students participate in at home as well, so when I first introduced the project, I had lots of questions about when they would be allowed to bring them home. We have just begun this project, and the students come into class each day bursting at the seams with ideas they want to share. The students will have to convert measurements, and they will learn about criteria and constraints as they design a lantern with enough cut outs to shine the light through, and with the ability to hold an LED tea light candle. I created an example to share with the class, and my favorite part was all the improvements the students shared with me that I should try next time. They are already further ahead than I was in their critical thinking. I am very excited to bring my students' culture into STEM and show them how they can find ideas to utilize 3D Printing in the world around them.\r\n\tTaking a step further we will have another project towards the end of the year, students will begin to look at everyday objects, a shopping cart, a door knob, a coffee mug, and decide how they can make these more accessible using 3D Print design. For example, adding a ledge to a shopping cart for someone who needs to wear an orthopedic boot and stay off their leg. The students will begin to notice how the world around them impacts others, and how they can use their creativity to design and make a difference.\r\n\tI want to emphasize how incredibly impactful this printer will be to my students' learning. They are learning skills like critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity in a brand new way. These skills are going to serve them regardless of what fields they choose to study and what career paths they take. My students are showing up to class excited and ready to ask tons of questions. I cannot thank you enough for this opportunity you have given us.","fullyFundedDate":1751479288334,"projectUrl":"project/from-my-mind-to-my-hand/9191691/","projectTitle":"From My Mind to My Hand","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Chacon","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2841017_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1512587857847","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/jw-chacon"},{"teacherId":1673515,"projectId":9046772,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your donation to our classroom!
