Every morning, we start the day with family reading time upon arrival. Family reading time offers a soft start to our school day. Children choose a book and a family member reads to them, or children join another adult. \r\n\r\nThe sensory books have helped children stay engaged and listen to the story. They also strengthen tiny hand muscles and hand-eye coordination by touching raised patches, turning the pages, or following finger trails. \r\n\r\nThis project also ensured that families have a book in their home language. These books have been added to the other books we currently have in different languages. \r\n\r\nThank you again for supporting this literacy project. Unfortunately, the books I wanted to send home with my students were not available during the ordering period, so I had to use the funds to order some other needed supplies at the time, such as sheet protectors for math games, and magnetic tiles and play-dough to build 2D and 3D shapes for our geometry unit. I also treated them to a tie-dye project with the socks I ordered to build community and inclusion in the classroom, since some new students had joined our class at that time.
