My students come from diverse backgrounds and have a range of learning needs. As such, it is very beneficial to have my students engaging in small group work throughout the school day. By creating a classroom environment that is based on flexible seating, I will be able to better reach all of my students' needs. They will be able to collaborate more effectively, and work with a range of students throughout their day. I will also be able to monitor group work with ease, as the flow of my classroom will be better. Students will also be given the opportunity to experiment and learn about what kind of learning space works best for them. Flexible seating provides students with opportunities for daily decision making, self monitoring, and learning how to effectively work with others. All of these skills are invaluable for the 21st century learner.
