One student even shouted, \"We get to use all of this?!\" Your support has helped turn our library into a high-energy hub of creativity where students feel empowered to take risks and use their imagination. \r\n\r\n\r\nWe have already put these resources to work with our Love Bugs activity. Making and sharing pom-pom Love Bugs helps build community among the students by creating opportunities for shared creative experiences, social interaction, and the strengthening of emotional bonds through handmade gift-giving. The students enjoyed this craft and it fostered kindness and a sense of belonging.\r\n\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, our next step is to use different materials to support the students' social-emotional well-being as we head into the testing season. Many students report feeling very stressed and anxious during this time and find relief in sensory-regulatory tools such as the fidget keychains we plan to make. With this craft, students will be able to recognize their own sensory needs and address them proactively. Furthermore, crafting provides a non-verbal outlet for emotions and builds a student's self-image. In an open-ended craft, there is no \"wrong\" way to create. This environment helps students embrace imperfections and build resilience when things don't go as planned.\r\n\r\n\r\nCrafting promotes student well-being by acting as a powerful tool for stress reduction, emotional expression, and cognitive development. Because of your kindness, every student in my library now has the hands-on materials they need to express their creativity. We are so grateful for your investment in our library and our future!","fullyFundedDate":1766363843448,"projectUrl":"project/innovate-create-supplies-for-our-new/9950580/","projectTitle":"Innovate & Create: Supplies for our New Makerspace!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Haifley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9785870_orig.jpg?crop=934,934,x336,y221&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1727895140554","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9785870"},{"teacherId":5701033,"projectId":9941583,"letterContent":"In our school and classroom, these new books are more than just stories on a page, they are tools for building thinkers. Through these books, students travel through time, deal with invasion, and follow the choice of characters their age. In this they are developing not only critical reading skills they are making connections between the text and their own lives. Giving our students a wider selection these books support their growth, develop creative thinking and problem solving all while putting the screen down. Beyond academics, these stories open the door for deeper conversations about identity, perseverance, and perspective, helping students not just read the world, but understand their place within it.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is an active, communal experience, meaning we still do SSR (silent sustained reading.) So some days look like quiet independent reading, while others feel more like a book club as we share the stories we are reading. The goal is not just to finish a book, but to engage with it, wrestle with it, and ultimately grow from it.\r\n\r\nWhat has been most powerful is watching students who once saw themselves as \"not readers\" begin to lean in. I think of a few students in particular who now ask for something similar or is there a next book, who light up when they recognize a theme we've discussed, or who proudly share their thoughts with the class for the first time. These books have given them both access and ownership; they see themselves in the stories, and in turn, they are beginning to see themselves as readers. That shift is something truly meaningful, and it would not be possible without your support.","fullyFundedDate":1768503094515,"projectUrl":"project/a-library-that-sparks-curiosity-and-cour/9941583/","projectTitle":"A Library That Sparks Curiosity And Courage","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Rodriguez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5701033_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x0,y322&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1768235382510","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mr-rodriguez13"},{"teacherId":10222631,"projectId":9963858,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our project, \"From Digital Design to 3D Reality.\" Because of your generosity, my students now have the opportunity to bring their ideas to life in a way that was previously only possible on a computer screen. My students are naturally creative and imaginative, and they love expressing themselves through both technology and art. Using Autodesk Fusion, they design everything from artistic sculptures and custom accessories to functional, real-world solutions—but now, with access to a 3D printer, they can finally turn those digital designs into physical creations they can hold, test, and improve.\r\n\r\nThis technology has transformed the way my students learn. Instead of stopping at the design phase, they are now able to complete the full engineering design process—brainstorming, modeling, printing, evaluating, and refining. This hands-on experience builds critical skills such as problem-solving, spatial reasoning, and design thinking. Students are more engaged, more motivated, and more confident because they can see their ideas become reality. The moment a student watches their design print for the first time is truly unforgettable—it turns learning into something meaningful and exciting.\r\n\r\nWhat excites students the most is seeing their creativity come to life and knowing they are using the same tools and processes as real engineers and designers. Some of my students who were previously hesitant have become deeply invested, spending extra time refining their projects and experimenting with new ideas. Your support is not just providing equipment—it is opening doors to future STEM careers and empowering students to believe in their ability to create, innovate, and solve real-world problems.\r\n\r\nThank you again for making this possible for my students.","fullyFundedDate":1767806208147,"projectUrl":"project/from-digital-design-to-3d-reality/9963858/","projectTitle":"From Digital Design to 3D Reality","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Swain","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10222631_orig.jpg?crop=1284,1284,x0,y4&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1765996367596","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10222631"},{"teacherId":9785870,"projectId":9810141,"letterContent":"Implementing book clubs with diverse literature like the books in this project will transform our school library into a dynamic space where students see their own lives validated while gaining empathy for others. For many students, these \"mirror books\" provide a rare and necessary reflection of their own cultures and identities, fostering a profound sense of belonging that is essential for academic engagement. By providing \"window books\" that offer a view into different lived experiences, we can cultivate a community of critical thinkers who are better equipped to navigate and appreciate a global society. These social reading environments foster essential socio-emotional skills, active listening, and the ability to navigate diverse perspectives through peer-led discussion.\r\n\r\nBeyond the social-emotional benefits, these book clubs directly address the literacy gap by making reading personally relevant and exciting. Research indicates that increasing access to diverse books increases the time students spend reading and significantly boosts reading assessment scores. Your support through Donors Choose will allow us to provide high-interest titles that inspire even our most reluctant readers to move from \"fake reading\" to genuine engagement. By funding this project, you are helping to create an inclusive environment where every student, regardless of their background, can grow as both a reader and a leader.","fullyFundedDate":1764637867438,"projectUrl":"project/building-community-with-book-clubs/9810141/","projectTitle":"Building Community with Book Clubs","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Haifley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9785870_orig.jpg?crop=934,934,x336,y221&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1727895140554","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9785870"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_27250","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":817,"numTeachers":33,"percentFrplEligible":56,"percentAsian":13,"percentBlack":12,"percentWhite":13,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":51,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"24.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":94.1,"schoolId":27250,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Hubert Bancroft Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Hubert Bancroft Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/long-beach-unified-school-district/hubert-bancroft-middle-school/27250"}
