These books and resources will give our students meaningful, accessible ways to learn about emotions, self-regulation, relationships, problem-solving, and coping skills. Many of our students benefit from seeing their own experiences reflected in stories and from having concrete examples of how characters navigate big feelings and challenging situations.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is about much more than practicing literacy skills, and it is also an opportunity to build emotional awareness and connection. We will read together, discuss characters' feelings and choices, make connections to our own experiences, and practice identifying strategies that can help us when we are overwhelmed. Students especially enjoy choosing books that match what they are experiencing or feeling that day. For students who sometimes have difficulty talking directly about their emotions, discussing a character's experience can provide a comfortable way to begin those conversations.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has helped us create a classroom library where students can find stories that support both their academic growth and their emotional development. These materials are becoming tools our students can return to again and again as they learn to understand themselves, connect with others, and develop strategies for navigating difficult moments. Last week several large boxes were wheeled into my classroom and I was giddy to open them. Within 48 hours I was able to open all the packages and have them set out to be used.\r\n\r\nYesterday was our first library day. Every student checked out at least 1 book and several checked out multiple.
