The arrival of the six personal voice recorders has already made a positive impact on my program. For example, we are in our last few weeks of preparation for our end of semester music department concert and the recording devices made the process of polishing the groups performance so much more efficient and student driven.\r\nOur chorus class was becoming very comfortable with one of the songs they will be performing, but I was finding that they were not able to hear the small note or timing errors that I was hearing during our rehearsals. I split the chorus into their vocal parts and asked them to move to separate locations around the room. I then handed each section one of the personal voice recorders. I showed the class how to use them and then, after a test run, the students set the devices to record, held it in the middle of each group of students, and then sang the song together. I also set one recorder in the middle of the room to capture the whole group.\r\nI was able to easily retrieve the recordings from the devices and share them with students using our digital learning platform. We listened to the recording that I had made from the center of the classroom together as a class and used it to discuss over-all, whole ensemble things that went well and needed to be improved. Then the next day we split into different rehearsal spaces as sections and each group listened to the recording that had originated right in the center of their group. The resulting sound brought their own part to the forefront of the recording, but also left it in the context of all the other parts. The groups were able to pinpoint what specifically needed to change for their part and focus their section rehearsals on making specific improvements. \r\nI can not convey strongly enough how efficiently our ensemble was able to critique and improve the performance of this one song with the usage of these recording devices. It surprised me that it worked even better than using student cell phones in prior years, before the state-wide school cell phone ban. We are now starting this process with the next most challenging song, and utilizing the devices in other ensemble classes. I will never go back to not utilizing personal recording devices in the rehearsal process and I truly appreciate your contribution to this positive change in our rehearsal approach.","fullyFundedDate":1762777098786,"projectUrl":"project/lend-me-your-ears-individual-recording/9764753/","projectTitle":"Lend Me Your Ears: Individual Recording Equipment For Musical Improvement","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Carle","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8634973_orig.jpg?crop=1677,1678,x0,y72&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1660952721869","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8634973"},{"teacherId":8634973,"projectId":9580611,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your contribution towards the acquisition of tuners and metronomes for our classroom. We have had these devices in our classroom for only a short period of time, but they have already become tools that the students and I are regularly reaching for. As I type this, the electronic metronome is being utilized by our Rock Ensemble class. The song that they are currently working on involves an introduction with just bass, guitar, and voice with drums coming in later in the song. The group has found the metronome to be easy to use and loud enough that is can be heard above the rehearsing group to keep a steady beat as they begin to put the parts together. The same group just switched to using the Dr. Beat Metronome now that they are starting to transition into where it is louder and need the added volume. The ability to easily add the subdivisions into the Dr. Beat metronome is also helping them out.\r\n\r\nI have found myself using the Dr. Beat as I direct my ensembles. It allows me to set it to a variety of metronome settings with different aspects of the beat isolated or emphasized. This is incredibly helpful pedagogically. Additionally, Dr. Beat allows me to very quickly and smoothly generate tuning pitches to help with the ensemble's intonation. \r\nFor personal intonation and rhythmic skill development, students have been using the Boss Tuner and Metronome. Previously we only had guitar and ukulele clip-on style tuners that exclusively use contact with the instrument to determine the accuracy of the pitch. That serves a role, but the Boss Tuner and Metronomes use a microphone that interprets the pitch heard, so a musician playing an instrument such as a clarinet can use the tuner to check pitch accuracy and make fine adjustments in real time during practice or group rehearsal. That adjustment helps with building real time intonation adjustment skills. Speaking of the clip style tuners, one of the challenges when using a guitar or ukulele style clip on tuner on a violin or viola is that it is tough to find a great way to attach the tuner onto the instrument without impeding the physical tuning whole using said tuner. We also gained a clip on tuner through this project that is specially designed to clip onto an instrument such as a violin and not get in the way of the tuning pegs. That is an exciting addition to the collection of tools and will prove helpful for our orchestral string players when they are trying to tune in a loud setting where a clip-on tuner will assist with their success, especially during our school concert warm-up periods when all musicians are unpacking and getting ready in the same location.\r\n\r\nYour generosity in helping to provide a variety of tuning and metronome tools for our music students to utilize for a variety of settings, ensembles, and instruments will be appreciated for years to come. Thank you very much!","fullyFundedDate":1755693717725,"projectUrl":"project/staying-in-tune-and-time/9580611/","projectTitle":"Staying in Tune and Time","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Carle","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8634973_orig.jpg?crop=1677,1678,x0,y72&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1660952721869","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8634973"},{"teacherId":8634973,"projectId":9447588,"letterContent":"After our music posture chairs arrived and were set up in the music classroom my students commented on the new chairs with excitement. They commented that they weren't able to slouch anymore, not in a way that came across as complaining, but in enthusiasm that the chairs were supporting their way of sitting and keeping them in good singing or playing position. One of my senior guitar students really was speaking from a place of happiness, saying that he has been really challenged by playing with good posture and has been working on fixing his playing. He was commenting that the chairs were helping him with his efforts to improve his playing. I often found that some students were avoiding sitting in the chairs while singing in chorus. Now they feel comfortable with singing while sitting as an option due to the improvement in support, which is helpful during longer rehearsals.\r\n\r\nFrom a teacher's perspective, I love how easily the chairs can be moved, stacked, and rearranged as needed in the classroom, while also serving as good, reliable, and durable seating for my students. They are comfortable enough that my students who are in my classroom for purposes beyond music classes, are not resistant to sitting in the chairs. That was not true of the chairs these are replacing. Your generosity has truly improved the learning environment of our music classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1752586599782,"projectUrl":"project/musical-chairs-are-more-than-a-game/9447588/","projectTitle":"Musical Chairs Are More Than a Game","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Carle","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8634973_orig.jpg?crop=1677,1678,x0,y72&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1660952721869","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8634973"},{"teacherId":9056041,"projectId":9167740,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generous donation towards a MacBook Air for our school's dance program! The MacBook has been used daily since its arrival. It is used by me for daily teaching-related tasks, but more importantly, it has opened opportunities for my students to learn and utilize programs related to dance production. Accessibility of applications such as GarageBand; for cutting music, QLab; for programming tech cues for our showcases, and another that transforms the MacBook into a control board for showcases, has increased the technical quality of our productions and has sparked student interest in learning more about these technologies. The MacBook has opened a door for direct student involvement in our production process. Students are now able to engage in lessons on how to utilize these programs, and have individualized opportunities to further develop their skills in these production elements. In the early weeks of each semester, students use the MacBook within small groups to cut, mash up, and explore audio for their student choreography projects. Later in the semester, the MacBook often lives in the school's Performing Arts Center as it is regularly used by students who program lighting and music cues for our end of semester showcase. Due to constraints on, just the sheer size of the equipment, we were only able to test for specific genetic markers (in this particular case, the ability to taste specific stuff) but it was really neat to see the results of those tests and compare them back to the students that were and were not able to taste those things. \r\n\r\nBetter is the knowledge that this is 95% reusable equipment, so we should be able to do this for forensics classes (and probably genetics classes) going forward for several years.","fullyFundedDate":1725739514791,"projectUrl":"project/hand-sequenced-dna/8443541/","projectTitle":"Hand Sequenced DNA","teacherDisplayName":"Prof. Metric","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9564119_orig.png?crop=320,320,x5,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1717679246876","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9564119"},{"teacherId":7573585,"projectId":8490264,"letterContent":"We are overjoyed at how well the new chairs have been received.
