These resources have allowed me to better differentiate my lessons, support small group instruction, and provide my students with activities they genuinely enjoy.\r\nMy students look forward to their assignments every day. Learning feels less like work and more like play, which is exactly what kindergarteners need. I have also been able to spend less time creating materials from scratch and more time doing what matters most, which is teaching, connecting with my students, and providing them with the support they deserve.\r\nBecause of your donation, my students have access to quality resources that make learning come alive in a fun and meaningful way. Your generosity has provided our students with access to a book that is both engaging and deeply meaningful.\r\n\r\nOne of the most powerful aspects of this graphic novel is how relatable it is for many of our students. Like Eugenia, many of our students are immigrants themselves or come from families who immigrated to the United States. As they read, students made personal connections to the character's experiences of balancing family expectations, cultural traditions, and fitting in with peers. These connections sparked thoughtful discussions and allowed students to see their own stories reflected in literature.\r\n\r\nA highlight of using these books in small groups has been watching students eagerly share their perspectives and compare Eugenia's experiences with their own. Students who are sometimes hesitant to participate became excited to contribute because they felt represented in the story. The graphic novel format also made the text accessible and engaging, encouraging even reluctant readers to dive into the book.\r\n\r\nThe impact of this donation will continue long after we finish reading the novel. These books have helped foster empathy, strengthen students' reading skills, and create a sense of belonging in our classroom. Most importantly, they have shown students that their experiences and identities matter and deserve to be reflected in the books they read. Our event featured a virtual visit from Stan Yan, the graphic novelist behind The Many Misfortunes of Eugenia Wang. During a school-wide assembly for our 4th and 5th graders, Stan shared his journey as an author and illustrator, discussed the creative process behind his work, and answered students' questions with enthusiasm and humor.\r\n\r\nOne of the highlights of the event was the classroom workshop that followed the assembly. Our students had the opportunity to learn directly from Stan how to create their own comics. They were excited to discover how characters, dialogue, and illustrations work together to tell a story. Watching students eagerly sketch ideas, develop characters, and share their comic concepts with classmates was incredibly rewarding.\r\n\r\nThe impact of Stan's visit continues beyond the event itself. Students gained a deeper appreciation for storytelling, creativity, and the hard work involved in writing and illustrating a graphic novel. Many have remained inspired to create their own comics, write stories, and explore new ways to express their ideas. The experience also reinforced important literacy skills, including narrative structure, character development, and visual communication. Thanks to your generosity, our students were able to learn from a professional creator and experience firsthand how imagination and perseverance can bring stories to life.\r\n\r\nStudents created multilingual stories that they turned into movies for their film festival. This week, our Chinatown library was filled with that very magic as we unpacked the beading supplies and rubber bands you so generously provided. On behalf of the students, the staff, and the families of our community, I want to express my deepest gratitude for your investment in our young creators.\r\n\r\nIn our neighborhood, resources for specialized visual arts and tactile STEM materials are often difficult to come by. Our students are incredibly resilient and imaginative, but they frequently have to make do with the bare minimum. Your donation has changed that narrative. You haven't just sent us \"craft supplies\"; you have sent us the tools for identity-building, cognitive development, and a much-needed sanctuary of calm.\r\n\r\nThe rubber bands and beads are being used to explore mathematical sequencing, symmetry, and spatial reasoning. For our younger students, the act of threading a bead onto a cord or looping a rubber band is a vital exercise in hand-eye coordination—a skill that directly translates to better handwriting and precision in science labs. They are learning the \"engineering\" of jewelry and sculpture, discovering how to tension a string so it doesn't snap and how to balance colors to create a visually harmonious pattern.\r\n\r\nBeyond the technical skills, these materials are helping our students celebrate their heritage. Our school is tucked into the heart of Chinatown, a place rich with history and vibrant aesthetics.
