On behalf of my students and our entire classroom community, thank you so much for supporting our DonorsChoose project, **\"A Snack a Day Keeps the Students at Bay.\"** Your generosity has truly transformed our classroom in more ways than one.\r\n\r\nBecause of you, we are able to provide consistent snacks for students who may otherwise go without during the school day. These snacks have helped create a more focused, calm, and ready-to-learn environment. When students aren't distracted by hunger, they participate more confidently, stay engaged longer, and are better able to complete their assignments.\r\n\r\nIn addition to the snacks, the calming corner chairs you helped provide have been a tremendous blessing. Our calming corner is now a safe, comfortable space where students can take a brief reset when they feel overwhelmed, frustrated, or anxious. Instead of disruptions escalating, students are learning how to regulate their emotions and return to class ready to learn. One powerful moment happened recently when a student who was feeling upset chose to sit in the calming chair, took a few deep breaths, had a snack, and then returned to her group activity ready to participate. That growth in self-regulation is something we celebrate.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the snacks and the calming corner chairs, their reactions were priceless. They were excited, grateful, and genuinely surprised that people they've never met cared enough to support them.\r\n\r\nYour contribution gave you a small peek into our classroom, and I want you to know that your impact continues every single day. The snacks support students' physical needs, while the calming corner chairs support their social-emotional growth. Together, these resources are helping build a classroom culture where students feel safe, supported, and ready to succeed.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, our next steps include continuing our current science unit with hands-on investigations and collaborative projects. With their basic needs met and emotional supports in place, students are better prepared to analyze weather patterns, complete group projects, and prepare for upcoming assessments. We are also continuing to teach and practice emotional regulation strategies so students can independently use the calming space when needed.\r\n\r\nThank you again for investing in my students. Your generosity has strengthened not only their learning, but their overall well-being. We are incredibly grateful for your support and for believing in our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1761073527830,"projectUrl":"project/a-snack-a-day-keeps-the-students-at-bay/9830407/","projectTitle":"A Snack a Day Keeps the Students at Bay!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Ricketts","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7895620"},{"teacherId":10340151,"projectId":9871413,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, our classroom has been able to put these new supplies to work right away! Students have been using the poster board, markers, and pencils to create visual projects that show their learning in creative ways. Recently, we worked on an argumentative writing project where students designed posters to present their claims and evidence. They used the bright markers to highlight key ideas and the poster boards to organize their thinking. The tissues have also been a daily help during the busy winter season, and the small candy rewards have been a fun way to celebrate effort, growth, and positive behavior.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, students were genuinely excited. Many of them immediately started talking about what they wanted to create and how \"official\" the new supplies made their work feel. Having fresh pencils and colorful markers gave them a sense of pride and ownership over their assignments. It was a great moment to see students eager to start working and carefully choosing materials for their projects. Even small things, like being able to grab a new pencil or earn a piece of candy for staying focused, have boosted motivation and classroom morale.\r\n\r\nNext, students will continue using these supplies for upcoming projects, including collaborative posters, reading response displays, and end-of-unit presentations. We're also working on building stronger writing and discussion skills, and these materials help students plan, draft, revise, and share their ideas with confidence. Your support has created a more welcoming, well-equipped space where students feel prepared to learn and proud of their work. One student shouted, \"Oh. My. Gosh! You have magnet tiles!\" and was immediately regulated from an emotional episode. It directly answers each question and clearly shows the impact of your project on students:\r\n\r\n---\r\n\r\nThank You for Supporting Our Classroom 💛\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, my students now have access to essential resources that support both their basic needs and their social-emotional growth. This project provided snacks for hungry students, sensory fidgets to support anxiety and ADHD, workbooks, social-emotional learning tools, and rewards for positive behavior support. These resources have already made a meaningful difference in our classroom community.\r\n\r\nWe use these resources every single day. The snacks have been especially impactful; students who come to school hungry are now able to focus, participate, and regulate their emotions more effectively. The sensory fidgets are used during independent work, transitions, and moments of anxiety; students often reach for them when they need comfort or help staying calm and attentive.\r\n\r\nOne powerful moment occurred during a small-group lesson when a student who typically struggles with emotional regulation independently chose a fidget, took deep breaths, and rejoined the group without disruption. The social-emotional learning workbooks and tools are now part of our daily routine, helping students identify emotions, practice coping strategies, and build empathy. Rewards for positive behavior reinforce these skills and encourage students to make responsible, kind choices. \r\n\r\nThe students were thrilled and genuinely excited. Their faces lit up when they saw the snacks and sensory tools, and many immediately expressed gratitude. Several students said things like, \"This helps me feel calm,\" and \"Now I won't be hungry in class.\" The excitement quickly turned into appreciation as they realized these materials were meant to help them succeed and feel safe at school.\r\n\r\nNext, students will continue using the social-emotional learning tools alongside academic lessons to strengthen self-regulation, goal-setting, and positive peer interactions. We are working on building independence and students are learning to choose the right tool or strategy when they feel overwhelmed or distracted. The positive behavior supports will continue to reinforce growth, helping students take pride in their progress both emotionally and academically.\r\n\r\nThank you again for giving my students not just supplies, but comfort, confidence, and the tools they need to thrive.
