My students are the first ones in my school to be given the opportunity to use flexible seating. They have taken great pride and joy in being able to have a choice in how, where, and with whom they learn. Giving my students the gift of choice through the use of flexible seating has empowered them to take a larger role in their own education and has had a positive impact on their academic growth, but it does take a lot of creative organization and extra materials. To give them even more choice, I have chosen to request fitness balls for those students who learn best while moving. The balls will be used at student desks to give students the ability to bounce or rock while working in a contained space. My students also need a better storage solution for their materials since not all types of seating options have built-in storage the way a desk does. Being able to give them sturdy, plastic book bins will give them a personal space to keep their materials together all in one place. By contributing to my classroom's seating options and organization, donors will be directly impacting the overall growth and achievement of my students.
