Just to become heartbroken when I saw them broken or left on the ground in the hallway. I would pick them up and put them in a jar by the door, in hopes that students would realize that the pencils they threw to the wayside would come back to them for the next class period. However, these pencils were then unloved and rejected due to being half of their original size or having no usable eraser. \r\n\r\nI realized there had to be another way.\r\n\r\nWith the organization, tools, and the pencil sharpener, which is now anchored to my cabinet, we have a system which holds students accountable for borrowing and returning a pencil anytime they need it. With our new manual pencil sharpener, we also no longer go through electric pencil sharpeners, which would become broken so often that the office refused to give us another one.\r\n\r\nEach desk has a pencil assigned to it in the holder, in case a student needs it. It is then easy to see if a pencil has not been returned due to the assigned number. It is with heartfelt gratitude that I write this letter to demonstrate this seamless and manageable system, which no longer causes so much waste and strife! Thank you so much for making this possible!","fullyFundedDate":1757614057745,"projectUrl":"project/a-pencil-a-day-made-my-go-away-not/9506698/","projectTitle":"A Pencil a Day Made My $$$ Go Away! Not only were we able to study first-hand the development of the embryos, hatchlings, and developing babies, but many students were able to adopt them and raise them at home as their own pets. Due to your generous donations, we had food, supplies, and all the basics required to raise these fascinating creatures. The students learned all of the steps to set up the brine shrimp factory for the hatchlings, how to maintain proper water chemistry, and how to fully care for the axolotls through their infancy stages.\r\n\r\nOne of the most special things about axolotl eggs is that their outer membrane is fully transparent, so students can watch the details of the embryos develop. This was such an incredible experience to go hand-in-hand with our comparative anatomy unit and our study of embryology as evidence for Evolution.\r\n\r\nSchool is starting in a few days, and many of my students are in contact. It is so rewarding to hear them tell me all about how their axolotls did over the summer, once they left the classroom. The responsibility and care for another living being that my students have learned has been a big experience for these kiddos. I am certain this is a science project that many will remember for the rest of their lives.","fullyFundedDate":1746715058584,"projectUrl":"project/raising-a-lotl-baby-axolotls-in-our-scie/9233597/","projectTitle":"Raising a LOTl Baby Axolotls in Our Science Class!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Ellis","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5208258_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1580258937208","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5208258"},{"teacherId":9819124,"projectId":8908603,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for the donations. These new additions to our library are not just replacements for worn-out, tattered books; they are a source of renewed excitement and engagement in reading. For many of our students, books are windows into worlds they have never experienced, and having access to stories that are vibrant, intact, and relevant encourages a deeper connection to literacy and learning.\r\n\r\nThese fresh books have replaced the beloved but well-worn copies that were on their last legs after years of eager use. With updated covers and crisp pages, the new books are more inviting and appealing, sparking curiosity and drawing students back into the joy of reading. This has been especially impactful in revitalizing the love for books among our reluctant readers, who are now more inclined to pick up a story when it feels new and special.\r\n\r\nIn a Title I school, where budgets are often stretched, having the privilege of offering these new books is a meaningful step toward closing the literacy gap.
