A playful brain is a learning brain. Practicing playfulness helps our students enter the classroom ready to learn. At our school, we know that when students play games that involve healthy competition, lateral thinking skills, and problem solving skills they will be better prepared for academic classwork, social emotional learning, memory building, team building, and communication. Playfulness leads to creative thinking and smarter decision-making. High school students are learning academics as well as soft skills as they prepare to enter a college, post secondary training programs, and the work force. When our students are playing games, competing, and communicating with each other, they are learning invaluable skills. These games will stay with the counseling department to enhance student readiness for academic learning in English and language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, and the arts. You are helping to provide an invaluable resource for our learners with special needs as well as our general population. Our students who have been in quarantine, distance learning, and hybrid learning will benefit from the skills provided when we play these games together. Playing games fosters curiosity, relationship building, and relieves stress. When students are actively playing, they feel safe and when a student feels safe, they are ready to expand their thinking. Voila! Growth mindset at it's finest!
