The \"belated happy birthday\" celebration was a hit! My first group of students celebrated were surprised. They were very happy to receive their birthday crown to wear, but even more excited when they were handed their birthday swag bag filled with treats, the small animal plushy, two smencils, stickers, and more. The Bad Seed and Pete the Cat were their favorites. We have a lot of Bad Seed stories so this was one of their favorite read alouds. Your donation made this project possible for my students, and they have loved being part of this STEAM activity. \r\n\r\nMy students were intrigued by the plastic cups packed in their sleeves when they were delivered to our classroom, and couldn't wait to start on our project. It's been a pleasure to see some of my students step up to take on leader roles as we worked to place the put-in cups to write our school's name. Members of our neighborhood had kind words to say as they walked by and were greeted by my students. My students received many compliments and best wishes as they worked, and we had a safe way to interact with our neighbors as they walked by our fence.\r\n\r\nThis project has also given me the opportunity to integrate art and math. We have begun learning about lines of symmetry. After learning about symmetry, they identified which letters of the grid alphabet they used for this project had lines of symmetry (and how many) and which ones did not. For their first symmetrical art, they created pumpkins to celebrate the fall season; next they will create symmetrical monsters because its \"spooky season\" after all.
