My students attend a large diverse public elementary school in Southern California. There are 45 wonderful 3rd-grade students in my dual language classes. They spend half of their instructional day in an English-speaking classroom and the other half in a Mandarin-speaking classroom. Most students of my class come from low-income families. They work very hard to achieve excellence in language art and subject content. My students are intelligent and enthusiastic about their studies. They love art, science and hands-on activities. They can read, write, and speak in both languages. They love to listen to stories of different people and how people manage to improve the world. I'm impressed with how they manage to compare and contrast different cultures and visions and make connections to their life.
