Because of your generosity, my second graders are actively using these resources to write letters back and forth with another second grade class in a neighboring district. One of our favorite moments so far was drafting our very first letters. Students carefully planned their writing, reread their sentences, and worked hard to make sure their pen pals would understand who they are and what makes them special.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, my students were thrilled. They were eager to learn who their pen pals would be and couldn't wait to begin writing. There was so much excitement as students asked questions like, \"When will we get our first letter back?\" and \"Do you think they like the same things I do?\" Your support helped turn writing into a meaningful, real-world experience that truly motivated my students.\r\n\r\nThanks to this project, students are now building stronger writing skills while learning about communication, friendship, and community beyond our classroom. Our next steps include responding to our pen pals' letters, asking thoughtful questions, and continuing to grow as confident writers. Thank you for giving my students this memorable opportunity and for helping make writing come alive in our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1761068336163,"projectUrl":"project/writing-for-kindness-bridging-communiti/9779319/","projectTitle":"Writing for Kindness: Bridging Communities One Letter at a Time","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Langdon","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10073164_orig.jpg?crop=468,468,x52,y6&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1751992607442","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10073164"},{"teacherId":10073164,"projectId":9722976,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of my classroom project! The headsets allow my students to fully engage in reading, language, and learning apps without distractions. The adapters ensure every device works seamlessly, and the labeled storage bags help us keep our materials neat, accessible, and ready to use at a moment's notice—something that makes a huge impact in a busy classroom.\r\n\r\nYour donation didn't just provide supplies; it created opportunities. Your donation provided our ENL (English as a New Language) students with new books, language games, and puzzles—all of which have had an incredible impact on their learning. I'd love to share a little about how we're using these resources and the difference they're making in our classroom.\r\n\r\nThe new books and games help introduce and strengthen a wide range of foundational reading skills. The puzzles and games reinforce these skills in a playful, hands-on way that keeps students engaged and makes learning feel like fun. These include (but are not limited to):\r\n---Letter recognition and letter sounds – essential for early readers who are just beginning to connect letters with spoken language.\r\n---Sight word fluency – helping students quickly recognize high-frequency words that don't always follow standard phonetic rules.\r\n---Vocabulary development – especially important for ENL students who are expanding their English language knowledge.\r\n---Reading comprehension – through simple, engaging stories that build understanding of plot, characters, and sequencing.\r\n---Phonemic awareness – the ability to hear and manipulate sounds in words, a key early literacy skill.\r\n\r\nReading time in our classroom is active, joyful, and full of discovery. You'll see students working in small groups or pairs, using books and games to practice new words, read aloud to each other, or answer simple comprehension questions. Many of our activities are structured to encourage conversation, which helps students build both reading and speaking skills. We also use reading centers where students rotate between different literacy tasks—like matching letter sounds, solving sight word puzzles, or retelling stories with picture cards.\r\n\r\nFor our ENL students, reading isn't just about decoding words—it's about building confidence in a new language. These materials allow them to make connections between pictures, words, and meaning in ways that feel accessible and encouraging.\r\nSeveral students have truly come alive since receiving these new materials! One student who was very hesitant to speak in English now loves reading repetitive pattern books with a friend—they've memorized parts and proudly \"read\" them to others. Another student who struggled with letter recognition now confidently matches letters to sounds using one of the new alphabet puzzles—and even helps classmates do the same.\r\n\r\nThe books have also sparked joy outside of reading time. Students often ask to revisit their favorite stories or retell them during play. It's been amazing to see how much their confidence has grown.\r\n\r\nThank you again for bringing the joy of reading into our classroom. Your support has given our students more than just materials—you've helped them find their voice in a new language, one book and game at a time.","fullyFundedDate":1640815647181,"projectUrl":"project/jumpstart-language-learning-with-books-a/5863216/","projectTitle":"Jumpstart Language Learning With Books and Games!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Iagia-Holmes","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2878689_orig.jpg?crop=1112,1112,x0,y226&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1615813511983","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2878689"},{"teacherId":10073164,"projectId":9451489,"letterContent":"I am so grateful for your generous contribution to my project. At the end of the school year, our school underwent a major reconfiguration, and I was moved from a newer classroom with plenty of storage and modern features into an older room that needed a lot of attention. Thanks to you, what started as a bare and uninspiring space is now a warm, welcoming, and organized classroom where my students feel proud to learn every day.\r\n\r\nMany of my students face tough circumstances outside of school, and the classroom environment you helped create truly makes a difference. When they walk through the door, they know this is a place where they are safe, supported, and valued. I've seen students who were once hesitant to participate become more engaged simply because the space feels more positive and welcoming.\r\n\r\nYour support has gone far beyond supplies—it has given my students a classroom that inspires them to learn and grow. My students have absolutely loved being able to use headphones and use them to focus on their school work. The pandemic hit many of them so hard and they were stuck home working with multiple siblings in their classrooms. \r\n\r\nThe new headphones are making a huge difference for our elementary ENL students. Because they're learning English, it's so important that they can clearly hear language models, pronunciation, and instructions without distractions. The headphones allow them to focus better during listening activities, use language-learning websites and projects I've designed for them effectively, and engage more fully with interactive lessons on their computers. It's helped build their confidence and improve their comprehension skills—especially when practicing speaking, listening, and vocabulary.\r\n\r\nOne student who was very shy about speaking English has really come out of their shell since using the headphones. They feel more comfortable practicing pronunciation when they know only they can hear themselves and everyone else can't hear them because they have their own headphones on. Another student, who is just beginning to learn English, now uses a translation feature on his computer and listens to instructions repeatedly until he understands it—something he couldn't easily do before.
