The life cycle books, 3D models, and magnifying glasses you funded have transformed our classroom into a bustling laboratory of young scientists. Your generosity has turned an abstract concept into something my first graders can physically hold, examine, and truly understand.\r\n\r\nThe materials you provided allow my students to learn through active discovery. During our reading block, the new books introduce them to crucial scientific vocabulary like chrysalis, tadpole, and germination. Then, during science time, they put that vocabulary to work. They aren't just looking at a flat picture of a life cycle; they are holding the stages in their hands, sequencing them, and writing about them.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part of this new project for the students is, without a doubt, the magnifying glasses! There is a magical shift in a six-year-old's mindset when you hand them a tool. They have been absolutely thrilled to examine the tiny details on the butterfly egg model or look closely at the legs growing on the froglet. It has turned writing time into an exciting game of discovery.\r\n\r\nThis project has been especially wonderful for my emerging readers and English Language Learners. Students who often struggles to find the words to express their ideas during writing time, completely blossomed with these materials. By holding the physical model of the caterpillar and using the magnifying glass to inspect its segments, they were able to bridge the gap between the object and the word. \r\n\r\nYour support has sparked a genuine, lasting curiosity in my students. By replacing our broken, four-year-old toys with this vibrant variety of building materials, learning has shifted from a passive activity to a completely tactile experience. In first grade, abstract concepts like spelling and geometry can be difficult to grasp through worksheets alone. Having these materials allowed my students to physically manipulate their learning. This hands on interaction deepened their critical thinking, boosted their phonics retention, and sparked a genuine enthusiasm for STEM concepts.\r\n\r\nBecause of the materials you provided I was able to design highly engaging literacy rotations where students practiced reading and fine motor engineering simultaneously. This dual-purpose learning kept engagement high and minimized off-task behavior.\r\n\r\nYour generosity gave me the exact tools I needed to create a safe, academically rich environment where play and purposeful learning meet perfectly.","fullyFundedDate":1772553892257,"projectUrl":"project/stem-fun/10123164/","projectTitle":"STEM Fun!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Thao","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7738158_orig.jpg?crop=649,649,x25,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1657179596715","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7738158"},{"teacherId":7738158,"projectId":10123101,"letterContent":"The addition of our new dedicated LEGO station has had a profound impact on my students' learning. In first grade, developing spatial awareness, fine motor strength, and early engineering skills requires consistent, hands-on practice. Having the specific LEGO sets they love paired with the inspiration book has transformed their play into focused STEM exploration. My students are no longer just snapping bricks together aimlessly; they are analyzing designs, counting units to ensure structural balance, and testing how different pieces connect to solve spatial puzzles. The project has sparked a deep enthusiasm for engineering and critical thinking that carries over into all areas of our school day.\r\n\r\n The inclusion of the LEGO ideas book allowed me to step back and let students take ownership of their learning. Instead of relying on me for ideas or getting discouraged when a build was difficult, students independently used the book to spark creativity, troubleshoot their designs, and guide their own building process.\r\n\r\n\r\nYour incredible generosity has given me the exact tools needed to turn my students' high interest in building into a structured, highly effective learning station. Our English language learners have especially enjoyed these activity boxes as they develop their vocabulary through play with physical toys.
