When they first saw the new games and fun toys, their eyes lit up and several even asked, \"Can we play with that today?\" It was an instant boost to their motivation and enthusiasm for learning!\r\n\r\nWe've already been using the materials in a variety of ways. My older students recently played a board game that helped them practice using context clues and inferencing in a group setting. They were laughing, taking turns, and using critical thinking skills without even realizing they were learning. My younger students have been using toy animals, vehicles, and clothing items to work on categorization and vocabulary. The Play-Doh and mouth puppet have been especially helpful in making speech sound practice more visual and fun. I have started calling the mouth puppet my \"magic mouth\" as the visualization it provides immediately helped two of my students learn the correct position for the /sh/ and /ch/ sounds!\r\n\r\nThe next step is to continue building language skills through play-based learning and carry those communication skills into the classroom. Our timers have been very helpful when challenging their quick, strategic thinking skills. \r\n The latest thing we have added to chess club is our chess tournament. Each student who wanted to sign up was placed into a bracket. At the end of the semester, we will have a championship game! For those who did not want to compete, they are still able to choose free play due to the additional boards you helped provide. The very first time we strummed together as a class, there was a special kind of energy in the room — a mix of joy, wonder, and pride.\r\n\r\nSince receiving these ukuleles, my students have been learning basic chords and strumming patterns. One of our first classroom projects was learning to accompany themselves on the ukulele while singing some popular songs. Watching students work together, encourage one another, and celebrate each small success has been inspiring. For some students, this has been their first experience feeling confident performing music independently.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we're working toward a performance where students will demonstrate the chords they've learned. I have one student that has difficulty with furniture because they are smaller than the other students. The futon has provided a comfortable seat that is easy for them to sit on and get off of. \r\n\r\nWhen I showed my students the new podcasting microphones they were, literally, jumping with joy. We have had a couple of practice assignments to become familiar with the microphones and how to connect them to the students' Chromebooks and editing software. It was such an easy plug-and-play device that the class is able to use them without much issue.\r\n\r\nWith the microphones, students have been able to add an element to their writing process. They are able to practice writing a draft, editing, writing a final draft, and publishing without realizing they are putting a lot of work into their assignments. My goal for the microphones is to create a resource hub that students can record podcasts teaching others about what they have learned. This will be a great way for students to show what they know, and for others to deepen their understanding through peer-to-peer tutoring.","fullyFundedDate":1731509608303,"projectUrl":"project/tools-for-diverse-learners/8545186/","projectTitle":"Tools for Diverse Learners","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Frederick","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7713150_orig.jpg?crop=901,901,x0,y348&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753364585094","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mr-fred"},{"teacherId":4956699,"projectId":8627591,"letterContent":"Thank you for helping provide my class, and many future classes, with books that help them build their knowledge!
