This project will provide additional materials for their literacy and math centers. My second graders love participating in their centers. This is their opportunity to show independent practice and they look forward to seeing which new centers they have for the week. Literacy and math centers provide an opportunity for students to practice new skills and gain confidence in reviewing older skills. For their literacy centers they need soft seating to read to themselves, headphones to listen to books and even some easy decodable books for my students who need books at their level. I want to include some manipulatives for their word work center. According to the Science of Reading, students need the opportunity to practice their phonological skills and these items will make an impact for their lit centers. For their math centers, the students need extra practice with subtraction and addition facts as well as counting money and telling time. For one of their math centers, I would like to provide the Power Pen cards for them to practice their fluency and receive immediate feedback.
