Your donation put these magazines into every student's hands and into their homes. We are grateful! \r\nIt's tough to find non-fiction reading materials at beginning reader level in Spanish. Our local public libraries are only beginning to expand their Spanish language children's sections. These non-fiction readers have just the right amount of text and age-appropriate vocabulary to be great practice for our students. In addition, the online resources and materials help students learn science concepts and reinforce their reading comprehension. I wish you could see us in action. Students use these materials daily to show their understanding of math concepts, to keep their work and books organized and to express themselves through art projects. Out of all the materials donated to our classroom, students were very excited to see and use the electric sharpener and the flexible seating floor cushions.\r\n\r\nStudents wrote thank you letters to donors (in Spanish) explaining how fast the electric sharpener was and the time it saved them. My students enjoy using the time saving sharpener at the beginning of the day and when we start our writing time. My students were also grateful for the flexible seating floor cushions. In their letters to donors, students explain that working or reading on the rainbow rug is more comfortable when they use the flexible seating floor cushions. \r\n\r\nThe donation that I am most grateful for are the colorful chair pockets. The chair pockets have helped my students take better care of classroom and library books. In the past students would place their books in their desks running the risk of being crumpled, if it was a softcover book, or accidentally placing their notebooks in between the covers of a hardcover book. In addition, students enjoy having books that are easily accessible for when they finish their work or test early.","fullyFundedDate":1733297579645,"projectUrl":"project/the-right-stuff/8551687/","projectTitle":"The Right Stuff","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Rodriguez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8087290"},{"teacherId":8304662,"projectId":8532178,"letterContent":"The beautiful classroom book display shelf arrived! Thank you so very much! The custodian, school nurse, and the children and I all opened it together. The box was enormous and the children were so excited. I loved telling them that some very kind people we don't even know cared so much about their learning that they sent this beautiful gift to help them learn The bookshelf came fully assembled and we worked together to fill it up with books right away! The same browsing books that had sat for days unnoticed in a basket suddenly got so much interest! Children were quick to finish up tasks so that they could enjoy book browsing time at our new reading area, around this beautiful bookshelf. Amazing! Where there had only light interest in independent book browsing, suddenly there was plenty! I noticed children treating books with greater care, too. Seeing the books as worthy of such a lovely display shelf, children returned them carefully to an empty space on the shelving after use where they might have tossed them spine first into browsing basket before. I am proud for visitors to come to our classroom and see that we value books and that reading is within reach--literally--of every child. This fall, we battled quite a few illnesses and those Lysol wipes were key in preventing the spread of germs! The copy paper and color cardstock kept families organized as I requested the return of various school forms copied in packets with different colored covers. Students enjoyed working in writer's workshop journals, number writing practice books, and handwriting practice books with brightly colored covers. Each student started the year with a pencil box containing a dry erase marker and glue stick that you supplied! As these tiny Kindergarteners learned to use school tools, they sometimes made mistakes like forgetting to put on a lid, or pressing too hard on a marker tip. During this fall learning time, it was great to have a healthy supply of school tools to replace a supply for those in need. The best part of receiving gifts through DonorsChoose is telling my students that some people out in the world that they don't even know cares so much about their learning that they sent them these gifts. I believe this makes a positive mark on their spirit and changes their view of the world. Thank you for helping them feel important, cared for, and loved. Thank you so very, very much for your thoughtfulness and generosity! We were OUT of beginning of the year supplies and were in need of all basics, especially glue sticks and paper! Your supplies were exactly what we needed! First, I did some deep cleaning with the Lysol wipes. Good to get rid of all those fall germs. Then, during the holiday break, I refilled all my students' individual supply boxes on their desks with a new eraser, glue stick and dry erase marker. They were so happy to open their boxes in January and find brand new supplies! In addition, I was able to make copies of January reading calendars for reading homework, January journal covers for journal writing, and valentine crafts on the brightly colored copy paper you sent. Thank you! Finally, I purchased some new English language development materials on Teachers Pay Teachers and printed all of it out using the new ream of paper you sent. I can't tell you what a relief it is to know we'll sail through this second half of the school year set with the supplies we need! Your kindness makes the world a better place. Your gift made such a positive impact on my students! They loved reading about real life events, animals, and people through these magazines. They especially loved taking their own magazine home to share with families. Each week, in connection with the reading, we viewed the highly engaging Scholastic videos included in the magazine subscription. These short videos prepared the students for the vocabulary and concepts they'd encounter in the text. Each week we also did one of the recommended extension activities associated with the reading. After reading about bats, we made paper bats with words labeling their body parts. We painted snowmen and wrote descriptions of our snowmen after reading about snow in winter. We played a penny probability game in math after reading about Abraham Lincoln on the penny. There truly is a shortage of quality non-fiction reading material that I can send home for independent practice at my educational setting. Your donation filled that gap. This resource is one that makes a huge impact on my students' language arts, science, and social studies performance. It also makes their learning fun! Thank you so much for your generosity.
