This table has truly transformed the way I conduct small group instruction. Being in close proximity to my students allows for more focused, personalized learning, and it's made it easier to provide immediate support and feedback. We've been using the table daily for reading groups, math rotations, and writing conferences. One of our favorite moments was during a phonics activity when a student excitedly said, \"I love our new table—we can all see each other and the teacher at the same time!\" That moment really captured how much of a difference it has made in our learning environment.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first walked in and saw the kidney table, their eyes lit up with excitement. They immediately asked if they could sit at the \"new special table,\" and it quickly became a favorite spot in the room. The table has created a more welcoming and inclusive space where students feel comfortable sharing ideas and asking questions. As we move into our next classroom project, we'll be using the table for guided reading discussions and collaborative math problem-solving. Thanks to your support, my students have a space that encourages curiosity, connection, and confidence every day. Many of the stories introduce important themes like kindness, empathy, self-regulation, and resilience, skills that are just as essential as academic ones. As we read together, we pause often to discuss characters' feelings, choices, and how we might respond in similar situations. These conversations help students build emotional awareness and practice perspective-taking. In addition to SEL, the books support reading comprehension strategies like making predictions, identifying main ideas, and connecting text to self. They've sparked thoughtful discussions and have become a daily highlight for many students.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is a mix of whole-group story time, small-group guided reading, and independent reading. Students cozy up with books during our calm-down times, and I've noticed that some of the most active students gravitate toward the SEL stories during these moments. One student in particular, who sometimes struggles with expressing emotions, has really connected with a book about mindfulness and now requests it regularly. The calming and fidget toys that came with the project have also played a huge role in creating a more peaceful reading environment, allowing students to self-regulate while staying engaged. These resources have made our classroom a more supportive and joyful place to learn—thank you so much!","fullyFundedDate":1693448933516,"projectUrl":"project/social-emotional-learning-is-a-differenc/7747628/","projectTitle":"Social Emotional Learning is a Difference Maker!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Sandoval","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1906259_orig.jpg?crop=1150,1150,x4,y78&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1693272213872","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1906259"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_103092","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":306,"numTeachers":24,"percentFrplEligible":64,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":16,"percentWhite":2,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":73,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Not specified","studentTeacherRatio":"12.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":72.5,"schoolId":103092,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Escalante - Biggs Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Escalante - Biggs Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/colorado/denver-public-school-district-1/escalante-biggs-academy/103092"}
