The students in my class have a wide range of abilities. Some students are able to focus and engage during group activities while others move around constantly and struggle to engage during these times. Some students have strong language skills and speak using multiple words, while others speak using only a few words or gestures. Some of my students are able to follow a classroom routine with the use of a whole classroom schedule and limited redirection, while others need more individualized visual schedules and support to follow through. The requested materials will help level the playing field for ALL of my students. The cube chairs would be used during whole group activities, to help provide students additional supports necessary to focus and engage. There would be enough cube chairs for every child in class. That way I do not have to pick and choose who needs one more than others. Every child would have access to one if needed. The fidget toys would be given to students that need a little something extra to keep their hands busy and their body more engaged in group activities. The fidgets can be used to help the students focus and allow them to burn off extra energy that builds up when they are sitting for teacher directed activities. The color ink will allow me to print color communication boards for all students to use as necessary. It is important that every child is given a way to communicate even if it is through making simple choices. The color ink will be used to print colored visuals and rewards charts to engage and motivate students. The materials will help each student feel the success that comes with being able to engage and focus in group activities with fading levels of adult support!
