Several students were able to benefit from these sensory tools in the classroom and in our individual sessions. The sensory strips were a big hit (and had to be replaced many times from being well-loved) and the headphones were a huge support for my students during moments of sensory overwhelm. I was excited to give certain students their own designated headphones for access throughout the day/week, not just during moments I was with them. These items helped my students' brains/bodies to be more organized and more available to learn. \r\n\r\nEvery individual has sensory needs, regardless of neurotype, though not everyone's sensory needs impact their ability to feel safe and ready to learn. Many students are not given access to the necessary sensory accommodations that they need and deserve. You, however, have helped many of my students get access these necessary supports. You have helped me improve their felt-safety and capacity to show off their skills in school. Know that you have helped these students' worlds be a little more affirming and accessible. Thank you.","fullyFundedDate":1770647671367,"projectUrl":"project/everyone-has-sensory-needs-support-an-o/10082498/","projectTitle":"Everyone Has Sensory Needs: Support an OT Supporting Her Students!","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Tran","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10428419_orig.jpg?crop=640,640,x0,y25&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1770213580417","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10428419"},{"teacherId":6254759,"projectId":9964644,"letterContent":"The new headphones have transformed the way our students engage with science learning. With clearer audio and fewer distractions, students are able to focus during digital simulations, video investigations, and reading supports that read text aloud. This has been especially powerful for our multilingual learners and students who benefit from auditory reinforcement—technology that once felt frustrating or inaccessible is now something they can use confidently. The headphones have created a more personalized learning environment, allowing students to work at their own pace without the noise of the classroom getting in the way.\r\n\r\nWhat excites students most is the sense of independence the headphones give them. Several students who were previously hesitant to participate in digital activities now eagerly put on their headphones and dive into lessons with enthusiasm. One student in particular, who often struggled to stay engaged during whole‑group instruction, has taken to the headphones immediately; he now uses them to revisit key concepts and complete assignments with a level of focus I hadn't seen before. Across the board, students feel empowered, capable, and genuinely excited to learn—something made possible by this generous donation.","fullyFundedDate":1767881232696,"projectUrl":"project/listening-is-believing/9964644/","projectTitle":"Listening is Believing!!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Vital","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6254759_orig.jpg?crop=2208,2208,x372,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1577164541690","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6254759"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_5809","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":366,"numTeachers":19,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":88,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":11,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":0,"gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"19.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":56.8,"schoolId":5809,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Emmett Till Math & Science Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Emmett Till Math & Science Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/illinois/chicago-public-school-district-299/emmett-till-math-science-acad/5809"}
