Last year, my students constantly tripped over the edge, so I had to use duct tape to tape it to the floor!\r\n\r\nThe new rug is tucked nicely in the corner, covered with large, comfortable pillows. Throughout the day, students rotate on and off the carpet to read or work collaboratively. We have had several days over 100 degrees, and the kids have come in during lunch recess to enjoy the air conditioning and play games on the carpet. Teachers can give this inventory and analyze the results to see what spelling patterns their students know or are missing.\r\n\r\nOnce I gave that assessment, I started using the \"Words Their Way\" program and the letter tiles with the students to work on spelling patterns in a low-incidence setting. We pull out certain letters and spell words using those letters. For example, using the letters in the TURTLES (because -le was a spelling pattern my students needed to work on), we started with words like let, set, rest, rust, and worked our way up to TURTLES.
