The students have taken what they were supplied with and build on their knowledge of art within the classroom and some have shared the experience of making art in community events at the school level and beyond. My classes are drawing, ceramics, and painting so we were able to cover a lot of ground but also we still have some gaps. We are hoping that next year we can continue replenishing to be at full power. \r\n\r\nMy painting students are working on stained glass designs and have put the light boxes to good use. These designs will become part of the classroom windows we have, they let the light in and also blocks some of the view into the classroom from the lunch traffic outside. Last month we had a multicultural event and the students shared the work they did in class - a Black History Month quilt. Each student made a square and created their own community in the process of making this. We also were able to take our paintings to First Friday, a community art festival. \r\n\r\nThe drawing students have gone from drawing in 2D to collaborating with our local elementary school. The elementary school students drew Gobi, a dog from an inspiring story during Nevada reading week. The drawing students in my classroom have taken their drawings and are turning them into a sculpture based on their drawings. We soon will be returning these sculptures to the elementary school students so that they can see their drawings in 3D. Both my high school students and the elementary school students are excited for the outcome and will now continue this collaboration with that school next year.\r\n\r\nBecause of your donation my ceramic students have been active in their community as well. The ceramics club was able to participate in First Friday art festival, made bowls for three-square, a pantry charity and our first mental health awareness festival - \"Art U Ok? We did a workshop that shared art making as a grounding activity using clay. Many artists and community partners gather to bring art to our community providing art to those who struggle with mental health and use it to assist in recovery or just to educate others on creating positive habits to maintain a positive mindset.\r\n\r\nAnother club I advise is the Alzheimer and Art where the students make art projects for patients with Alzheimers and these supplies are still being used for these projects. As you can tell we have had an ongoing theme this year, and that is creating community through art and inspiring others. Like our donators, we to want to give back to our community so know that your donations do not stop only at the classroom. To ensure every student gets focused time with me, I've assigned each group of four a color: Red, Yellow, Green, or Blue. Each day, I call a specific color to the \"front\" to work at the round table. This system has been a game-changer for my ELL students; because the rotation is based on color, no one feels \"called out\" for needing extra support. Instead, it feels like a privilege!\r\nWhile at the table, we use our new colored pencils to tackle the \"language\" of math. By color-coding our notes—using one color for exponents and another for coefficients—the students are making visual connections that language barriers used to block.\r\n\r\nStudent Reactions:\r\nMy students absolutely love it. When they first saw the table and the vibrant sets of pencils, there was an immediate buzz of excitement. Now, they are constantly asking, \"Is it our turn yet?\" If I call a color and there's an empty chair or someone is slow to move, other students are practically jumping out of their seats to \"sub in\" and get that front-row support. The table has turned math from an isolating task into a sought-after collaborative experience.\r\n\r\nA Specific Moment of Impact:\r\nDuring our recent unit on exponents, I watched a student who usually struggles with notation suddenly stop and smile. They looked at their color-coded notes and said, \"Wait, the green number is how many times I multiply the red number... I get it now!\" Seeing that \"lightbulb moment\" happen because of a simple color connection was incredible.\r\n\r\nVisualizing Quadratics\r\nOur next mountain to climb is Graphing Quadratic Functions, a unit that can often feel overwhelming due to the complex shapes and multiple variables involved. We will be using our colored pencils to perform \"surgeries\" on parabolas!\r\n\r\nStudents will use specific colors to identify and label the key features of a quadratic graph. For example:\r\n\r\nThe Vertex will be highlighted in one color to show the \"turning point.\"\r\n\r\nThe Axis of Symmetry will be another color to show the fold of the graph.\r\n\r\nThe Y-Intercept and Roots will each have their own assigned hues.\r\n\r\nBy color-coding these parts, my students can visually separate the different components of the function, making it much easier to transition from a complicated equation to a clear graph.
