Our class read lots of books and talked through how the characters were acting with kindness. We discussed how we can be kind in those same ways at school. With the watercolor paper, watercolor pencils, watercolor paints, and acrylic markers donated our students were able to turn what they learned about kindness into beautiful kindness posters. Students shared their messages of kindness with students at our school and their posters were put around the school as a reminder for all to see. My students not only learned so much, but were very proud to be able to create art and share their messages of kindness with the whole school! This made it difficult for all the students to work at the same time and sometimes led to a lot of mess and spills. Now, with the new easels, each student has a dedicated space to create. The easels have helped us keep our classroom tidy and organized, which in turn has given my students the freedom to express themselves without worrying about making a mess.\r\n\r\nThe new paint cups are a game-changer as well. They are much easier for little hands to manage, and they don't tip over as easily as our old ones did. This means less wasted paint and more time spent on the actual art. And with the new paper, we now have a steady supply of high-quality material for our little artists to create their masterpieces on.\r\n\r\nOne of our first projects with the new materials was an exploration of abstract art inspired by the work of Wassily Kandinsky. The students were so excited to use the easels that they started calling themselves \"real artists.\" They loved having their own station, and they spent the entire art period mixing colors, experimenting with different brushstrokes, and creating beautiful, colorful works of art. Your support has brought a little piece of nature indoors, and it's already making a huge impact on our students' learning and imagination. We wanted to give you a glimpse into how your gift is being used.\r\nWhen the students first came into the classroom and saw the new leaf carpet, there were gasps of awe and a few quiet moments as they took in the sight. A couple of the children immediately kicked off their shoes and laid down on the plush leaves, giggling with delight. It was like they had discovered a secret forest floor right in our room. The excitement was contagious, and they couldn't wait to sit on it, touch the different leaves, and feel how soft it was.\r\nThe leaf carpet has quickly become our favorite spot for storytime. We recently read The Lorax by Dr. Seuss, and we used the new carpet to create a special \"forest floor\" where we could gather. The students loved huddling together and pointing out how our new carpet looked like the Truffula Trees' forest. The students were happy and excited to play with the new materials. The materials have been their go-to activities during play time and they all were so engaged with each of the activities. \r\n\r\nSome of the materials really helped in their pre-academic skills/fine motor skills and social-emotional. We use the materials during circle time, table work time, and free-play time. They really enjoyed sorting, creating, and building. This helped increase their engagement and participation. The new materials also have given them the learning experience to learn new words, experience different toys, and have a variety of new activities.\r\n\r\nThe next step for my students is to utilize more of the materials during table work time and see various creations from them.
