With the money, we were able to purchase a wide variety of live animals so that our students can learn life sciences by observing, handling, and working with animals rather than looking at them in a video or photos. \r\n\r\nSecond and first graders have been working with the millipedes while third and kindergarten students have worked with the bullfrog tadpoles. Though the tadpoles are long ways from turning into frogs at this point, the third-grade students have considered the habitat of the tadpoles and built aquariums to meet their environmental needs (a variety of water plants for cover and food, clean water, and gravel in a shallow aquarium). The kindergarten students use the tadpoles as another example of animals that go through a metamorphosis as part of their lifecycle (along with the school's bee colony). \r\n\r\nThe only part of the funds that we haven't been able to work with yet are the butterflies. Due to a couple of weeks of winter weather and the awkward placement of our Spring Break, we had to delay the butterflies a few weeks. They will be here in a few days. The kindergarten and third grade students will take care of the caterpillars in their classrooms, handling and measuring the caterpillars as they quickly grow. After the chrysalis stage, all of the butterflies (we will have a total of around 450 this year) will be released as part of our spring PTA night. We had a smaller release at last year's PTA night, and it was a hit with parents and students.","fullyFundedDate":1758638843594,"projectUrl":"project/butterflies-tadpoles-and-millipedes-l/9620180/","projectTitle":"Butterflies, Tadpoles, and Millipedes: Learning Life Cycles With Live Animals","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Blocher","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8026484_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x0,y20&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1694282997392","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8026484"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_6155","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":668,"numTeachers":55,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":46,"percentWhite":23,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":22,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"12.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":56.1,"schoolId":6155,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about East North Street Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"East North Street Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/south-carolina/greenville-county-schools/east-north-street-academy/6155"}
