They have allowed me to more fully implement best practices grounded in the Science of Reading. We use the mirrors daily to practice sound articulation during phonemic awareness activities. The whiteboards, markers, and erasers are used throughout phonics instruction for writing letters, words, and sentences, and the magnetic letters allow students to build and spell words. The cart has also been invaluable in keeping everything organized and easily accessible.\r\n\r\nThe children absolutely love using the mirrors and whiteboards. Thanks to your generosity, my students now have access to Spanish books for our classroom library, hands-on science center materials, and fidgets that have transformed both learning and the classroom environment.\r\nThe Spanish books have had an immediate and powerful impact. Many of my students are learning to read in Spanish for the first time, and having engaging, age-appropriate books in their home language has made them feel confident and excited to read. I've seen students proudly choose books, reread their favorites, and recommend titles to classmates. Our library has become a space where students feel represented, motivated, and eager to grow as readers.\r\nThe science centers have brought a new level of curiosity and engagement to our classroom. During center time, students worked hands-on to explore, observe, and discuss scientific concepts. I was especially struck by how focused and collaborative they became—students asked thoughtful questions, explained their thinking to partners, and showed perseverance when experiments didn't work the first time. These moments helped them see themselves as scientists and problem-solvers.\r\nThe fidgets have also made a meaningful difference, particularly for students who need extra support with focus and self-regulation. I noticed that students who previously struggled to stay engaged were better able to concentrate, participate in discussions, and complete tasks. The classroom felt calmer, more inclusive, and more supportive of different learning needs.\r\nBecause of you, my students are learning in an environment that values curiosity, inclusion, and joy. Your support has not only provided materials, but also opportunities for confidence, connection, and meaningful learning experiences that will stay with them well beyond this school year.\r\nThank you for believing in my students and for investing in their education.","fullyFundedDate":1760379191919,"projectUrl":"project/a-classroom-where-everyone-belongs/9822617/","projectTitle":"A Classroom Where Everyone Belongs","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Salinas","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10310179"},{"teacherId":2611077,"projectId":9829516,"letterContent":"My first grade students and I thank you so much for funding our project reading and games. Students are also working together and using creativity to build various structures with these items.\r\nThey have also enjoyed the books that were included in the project as well. They have helped increase socialization among my students and have made learning during recess both fun and purposeful. I have seen students who once struggled to interact now eagerly engaging with their peers through play.\r\nYour donation of books has also transformed our classroom library. It is now full of stories that my students truly love. They are constantly asking to try new books, explore different topics, and share what they are reading with one another. Watching their excitement for reading grow has been incredibly rewarding.\r\nI am also incredibly grateful for the anchor chart paper you provided. It allows my students and me to create visual representations of what we are learning, which has greatly enhanced understanding and retention of new concepts.\r\nIn addition, the new fidget toys and treasure box items have been a wonderful motivator. My students are so eager to earn these rewards, and they take great pride in choosing something for themselves. These small incentives have encouraged positive behavior and helped them stay focused as they work to become stronger, more confident learners.\r\nI am truly grateful for your kindness and support. They have been pivotal in helping my students come to physical education and stay active while simultaneously practicing their reading skills. \r\n\r\nWhen the students saw the new materials they were excited and curious as to how we would use them. For the younger kids, their favorite activity has been putting stuffed animals on the proper letter sound dot. They must do a movement around the room with a stuffed animal and then put that animal on the letter dot that matches the first sound of the animal name. This has given the younger children, and struggling readers, the opportunity to practice their skills in a fun way. We have also used the scarves and rings to play rhyming games. They must say a rhyme, throw the scarf, and catch it with the ring. This helps their coordination, collaboration skills, and rhyming skills. \r\n\r\nThank you again for the generous donations! I am not sure what the next steps will be, but I have a few ideas in mind! Some of the best ideas come from my students. Your contribution plays a vital role in helping students connect language and sound, strengthening both their reading and musical understanding.\r\nLiteracy is an essential part of the elementary music room. Through songs, rhythm, and rhyme, students build vocabulary, listening skills, and reading fluency while engaging in meaningful musical experiences. Music naturally reinforces patterns, sequencing, and expression—key components of literacy—while providing a creative and joyful way for children to develop communication and critical thinking skills.\r\nResources such as the Rhythm & Rhyme Paperback Library and Rhythm & Rhyme Board Book Collection promote early literacy by helping children recognize language patterns, develop phonemic awareness, and strengthen memory through repetition and rhyme. The Rhythm Band 8-Note Glockenspiel and Play Hand Bells!: 55 Easy Songs for 8 Note Bell Set encourage careful listening, sequencing, and sound recognition, all of which support the auditory discrimination skills vital for reading development. Additionally, Gryphon House's Shake, Rattle, and Roll integrates music and movement to enhance vocabulary, comprehension, and expressive language through engaging, multisensory learning.\r\nBy supporting literacy integration in the elementary music room, you are helping nurture well-rounded learners who can connect language, rhythm, and expression.
