Paired with the building materials, my students are now able to immediately apply what we are reading by designing, testing, and improving their own creations—gliders, structures that shade the sun and that keep ice pops frozen, new species of animals, and more. This connection between storytelling and STEM helps make abstract concepts tangible and accessible, especially for early learners.\r\n\r\nIn the coming months, we are looking forward to using the holiday books about how to catch a leprechaun and how to catch a groundhog to design and build traps to catch them. We will also be using the books about Animals to learn about animal adaptations for our upcoming adaptation science unit. In this unit we will be using what we learn about animal adaptations to design and build our own new species of animal with adaptations that will help it to survive in its environment. The pompoms, feathers, pipe cleaners, dowel rods, felt, and foam sheets will help us bring some projects to life.
