The fruity-smelling playdough became a special reward that students could earn after showing effort and focus during their learning centers. This created extra motivation, and students worked hard knowing they would have the opportunity to use it. The sorting bears and patterning activities quickly became a favorite during math centers. Students were eager to sort by color, create patterns, and explain their thinking. The Connect 4 game helped students practice turn-taking and problem-solving, while the sidewalk chalk gave students a fun way to practice writing letters and CVC words outside.\r\n\r\n One specific moment that stood out was when a student was working with the sorting bears to create a pattern. After making a simple red, blue, red, blue pattern, she paused and said, \"I can make it harder,\" and added a third color to create a more complex pattern. She proudly showed her classmates and explained her thinking. It was such a powerful moment because she challenged herself and demonstrated confidence in her learning. Another student earned the smelly play dough as a reward and carefully used it to form letters from a CVC word we had practiced earlier. He was so proud to connect his hard work with a fun, meaningful activity.\r\n\r\n These materials will continue to support my students as they build foundational literacy and math skills through hands-on learning. Our next steps include using the manipulatives to practice more complex patterns, strengthen CVC word building, and encourage collaborative center work. The reward-based playdough system will continue to motivate students to stay focused and do their best. These resources have created a more engaging and positive learning environment, and my students are excited to learn each day because of your generosity.","fullyFundedDate":1761750869747,"projectUrl":"project/first-year-needs/9450913/","projectTitle":"First Year Needs!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Cici","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10072933"},{"teacherId":8807102,"projectId":9240523,"letterContent":"You cannot imagine not only how excited the students were to hear they were receiving drums but me, as the teacher, I was just as excited! This school did not have hardly any instruments. We collected large cans last year to play since there were no drums. I am truly grateful for the contribution to enhance the exposure of music. \r\n\r\nThe students, mainly 3-4 graders, will use the drums to learn rhythm and drumming techniques. They are using the drums in the Native American heritage culture music learning beats. These drums allow the students to get hands on experience of the rich culture of Native Americans and every culture while accompanying other instruments in the process. Since drums are a common denominator of all cultures these drums will be used for many activities.\r\n\r\nI wish I would have taken a picture of their faces (grades K-4) when the drums arrived. They were loud, eyes wide, and clapping. When I opened the boxes, it was like it was Christmas or my birthday!! I am so thankful this project was funded, and I hope future projects will be funded for this school who desperately needs the addition of music instruments to further the creativity, exposure, and desired learning.","fullyFundedDate":1746786442211,"projectUrl":"project/lil-drummers/9240523/","projectTitle":"Lil Drummers","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Doughty","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8807102_orig.jpg?crop=272,272,x6,y92&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1732205657415","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8807102"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_123836","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":482,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":90,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":11,"percentWhite":8,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":75,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":83.3,"schoolId":123836,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Dove Science Academy South Okc on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Dove Science Academy South Okc","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/oklahoma/oklahoma-department-of-education/dove-science-academy-middle-school/123836"}
