These resources have become some of the most requested tools in our counseling office and have helped create meaningful conversations about feelings in a way that is engaging, safe, and developmentally appropriate for our elementary students.\r\nThe SPOT books introduce important social-emotional skills such as identifying emotions, self-awareness, emotional regulation, empathy, problem-solving, and healthy coping strategies. Many young children struggle to put their feelings into words. The colorful characters and relatable stories help students recognize emotions in themselves and others, giving them the language they need to express what they are experiencing.\r\nReading in our counseling space is interactive and hands-on. Students often choose a SPOT book that matches how they are feeling, read together with the counselor, and then use the corresponding plush toy to discuss emotions, practice coping skills, and role-play real-life situations. The plush toys provide comfort and help students feel more relaxed while talking about difficult feelings or experiences.\r\nSome of our youngest students have especially benefited from these resources. Children who are typically hesitant to talk about their emotions often open up when holding a SPOT plush and discussing the character's feelings. Students experiencing anxiety, frustration, sadness, or friendship challenges frequently connect with the stories and use the characters as a bridge to share their own experiences. It has been wonderful to watch students build emotional vocabulary and confidence as they learn that all feelings are okay and that there are healthy ways to manage them.\r\nYour support has provided more than books and plush toys—it has given our students tools to understand themselves, connect with others, and develop skills that will benefit them for years to come. They look forward to earning stars and working together towards a common goal. \r\n\r\nThe flexible seating bounce chair is another class favorite. I have seen students who normally struggle to sit still be able to complete their work with this tool. They use it to quietly bounce in their area and slightly roll around. This subtle movement makes all the difference for my students. They are grateful for both tools. When they first saw both tools they were very excited! They understood how these tools would benefit them as individuals but also everyone as a class culture. With your help, I \r\nwas able to bring a document camera into my science classroom, and it has completely changed how my students access learning. Now, instead of struggling to see demonstrations or crowding around materials, students can clearly view experiments, writing, and examples right from their seats. I'm able to zoom in so my kindergarten and first grade students can see each letter as they copy. I can even show real-time experiments, like our recent seed growth project, in a way that keeps everyone engaged. My students are especially excited when they can see close-up details of what we're studying, which has made lessons feel more interactive and meaningful.\r\nThis technology has also allowed me to teach more effectively. Because the camera is stable and easy to use, I'm no longer tied to holding materials in place and can move around the room to support students as they work. I can split the screen between a live example and a presentation, which helps students make connections more easily. I've seen increased focus and participation, especially from students who benefit from clear visual support and hands-on learning.\r\n\r\nWhen the original camera I selected was no longer available, I chose a similar model that worked wonderfully and also made it possible to add a few additional supports for my students. Flexible seating bands have helped younger students who can't comfortably reach the floor in chairs shared with my older students, while also serving as fidgets that improve focus and reduce distractions. A classroom timer has given students more independence when taking breaks. I was also able to add fidgets for student use, as well as enough scissors so every student has access to their own pair, even in my largest classes. \r\n\r\nYour support has made my classroom more accessible, engaging, and student-centered, and I truly appreciate the difference it makes each day.","fullyFundedDate":1766501880081,"projectUrl":"project/looking-at-our-world-through-a-new-cam/9840565/","projectTitle":"Looking at Our World Through a New (Camera) Lens","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Davis","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10245482"},{"teacherId":9716931,"projectId":9931080,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of our classroom.
