When students first saw the materials, their excitement was immediate—bright LEGO pieces, motors, and sensors invited curiosity and creativity, and many students were eager to apply their coding skills in a brand-new way. From the start, students demonstrated responsibility and integrity as they learned how to care for and share the materials, while showing bravery as they explored unfamiliar challenges and took risks with their designs and code.\r\n\r\nOne particularly meaningful moment involved two students who typically require significant guidance during open-ended projects. Using the SPIKE Prime kit, they worked together to design and build a LEGO character named Hopper. Through cooperation and perseverance, they figured out how to construct the model, program it using the Scratch-based coding platform, and troubleshoot when it didn't work as expected. With each iteration, their confidence grew as they refined their code and celebrated the moment Hopper successfully moved on its own!\r\n\r\nNext, students will continue using the SPIKE Prime kit as a rotating station to deepen their understanding of coding, engineering, and design. They will take on more complex challenges that encourage independent problem-solving while strengthening their ability to work as a team and persist through setbacks. As lessons aligned to NGSS, ISTE, and CSTA standards progress, student will explore increasingly creative builds and coding solutions, building both technical skills and essential habits of character. This resource has already made a powerful impact, and we are incredibly grateful for the opportunity it provides our students to learn, grow, and innovate through playful, meaningful STEAM experiences.","fullyFundedDate":1758297727343,"projectUrl":"project/stem-coding-confidence-one-brick-at-a/9657013/","projectTitle":"STEM - Coding Confidence, One Brick at a Time","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Christa","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10227757"},{"teacherId":9170007,"projectId":9119469,"letterContent":"The benefits of this project continue to pour into my classroom in unexpected ways! This fall, we got a subscription to IXL, an online, adaptive website for math practice. Students have been able to use the headphones from this project in order to listen to lessons if they are struggling with a skill. This has been especially helpful for four of my seventh grade students who read at a second-grade level - the headphones allow them to listen to word problems without embarrassment! Now they can work on skills without their reading delays holding them back. \r\nThis project also allowed me to continue to build my math reading library. This year, I'm finding students request math books for independent reading time or when they finish work early! More than just for centers time, as I had previously envisioned. It's truly a delight to see tweens and teens get lost in the intricate examples of books like \"Mammoth Math.\" \r\nIt takes a village to teach a child, so thank you for being a part of the Detroit Prep village!","fullyFundedDate":1742908959168,"projectUrl":"project/math-workshop-materials/9119469/","projectTitle":"Math Workshop Materials","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Coe","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9170007_orig.png?crop=1992,1992,x1779,y284&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1714931193811","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9170007"},{"teacherId":10227779,"projectId":9657062,"letterContent":"My students and I are truly grateful for the generous resources funded through this project. The excitement in my 7th and 8th grade dance elective classes was immediate when they received their new dance socks. They quickly felt the difference in grip and control, and several shared how much more confident and precise they felt as they practiced technique across the floor. In our K–6 classes, the dance spot circles have already transformed the way we rehearse. Students now understand spacing, direction, and formations with much more clarity, and one third grader proudly exclaimed, \"I know exactly where to stand now!\" These tools have made our studio environment more organized, efficient, and professional for all of our dancers.\r\n\r\nOur younger students also benefited greatly from these materials. First graders were thrilled to use ribbon wands in their Term 1 dance routine—especially since this year every dancer had one, unlike last year. Their faces lit up as they moved in unison, filling the room with color and energy. Kindergarten dancers proudly used their own scarves during their performance, helping them connect emotionally and creatively to their movement. These simple but meaningful resources gave our youngest performers a sense of ownership and joy.\r\nAs we look ahead, these supplies will continue to support upcoming units and performances. Middle school dancers are beginning a technique-focused sequence where the new dance socks will help them practice turns, slides, and weight shifts safely and accurately. Elementary dancers will keep using the dance spot circles as we prepare for our spring showcase, strengthening their understanding of formations and spatial awareness.\r\n\r\nYour contribution has truly strengthened our entire dance program. Because of your support, my students walk into class each day feeling like real dancers—confident, prepared, and inspired. Thank you for bringing so much joy, creativity, and possibility into our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1758231325952,"projectUrl":"project/from-balance-to-brilliance-empowering-y/9657062/","projectTitle":"From Balance to Brilliance: Empowering Young Dancers","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Nia","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10227779"},{"teacherId":2474446,"projectId":9254244,"letterContent":"Thank you for donating to my project!
