A classroom set of Junior Scholastic magazines introduces scholars to high-interest nonfiction, current events, and diverse perspectives written at an accessible level. Through these texts, scholars build essential skills such as close reading, identifying main ideas and evidence, analyzing multiple viewpoints, and making text-to-world connections. These are the same skills they need to be successful in social studies, reading, and beyond.\r\nReading in our classroom is active and collaborative. Scholars read articles together, annotate key ideas, discuss current events in small groups, and connect what they read to historical topics we are studying. Junior Scholastic allows scholars to engage with real-world issues in a structured, age-appropriate way, helping them see that social studies is not just about the past, but about understanding the world they live in today.\r\nMany of my scholars—especially those who may struggle with traditional textbooks—are especially engaged when reading magazines. The visuals, short articles, and relevant topics spark meaningful discussions and thoughtful questions. This resource will help scholars feel confident sharing their ideas and opinions while developing informed perspectives. Ultimately, Junior Scholastic will help inspire my scholars to become critical thinkers, confident readers, and informed, active citizens of the world.","fullyFundedDate":1746787002261,"projectUrl":"project/bring-junior-scholastic-to-our-classroom/9321517/","projectTitle":"Bring Junior Scholastic to Our Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Johnson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6314751_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1557176308051","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6314751"},{"teacherId":9700415,"projectId":9814702,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for helping me establish a legitimate bookshelf in my classroom.
