I have the honor of seeing a child's face they first time the see the magic that happens when yellow and blue make green. I have the privilege of showing them the genius of Michelangelo and the wonder of finger paint. I teach art and drama to grades K-12 in a very "at risk" area. My school is in a transient town with a high meth-addicted population and an over 50 % high school dropout rate. Children need to create. They need to feel that what they make is important. What they do is important. The kindness you show will be shared with them. In turn they will learn that helping someone has an impact. I tell my students your actions are like rocks thrown in the rive reven after the ripples have stopped the rock is still there. Know that your gift will have a lasting impression.
