Students had so much fun working on this activity, and shared some insightful reflections on how they want to better their environmental impact. As I mentioned this was an alternative activity to a field trip that was canceled due to lack of funding. \r\nThe resources were used to have them creatively decorate the tote bags and pouches, they focused specifically on marine life, since our unit focused on the impact that we as humans have on the marine life in the Monterey Bay. We have built the greenhouse and it is averaging 10 degrees warmer than the outside. The students have noticed the difference . We planted many of our winter crops and have turnips, green onion, peas, fava beans, cauliflower and celery growing in addition to 4 types of leafy greens. \r\n The worms arrived a week ago and we are composting our scraps from snack and lunch as well as from our cooking projects. We are planning our summer garden as well and since summer school is at our school this year we can tend the garden easily all summer long. \r\n We are doinf soil tests on the old raised beds and have found the soil is in much better shape then we expected. In addition the new raised beds were built by students and are being utelized.
