We have fully integrated into distance learning. We are using online edTools to create learning experiences that engage students. Our math department primarily uses Pear Deck to present math content and ask students interactive questions. While we’ve found some successes with this platform, one challenge we still face is the ability to monitor student work and to share student responses. If I had an iPad as a second device, I can better monitor student responses and facilitate online discussions.
Another benefit of using an iPad for virtual learning is to provide feedback on student work. As teachers, we are also assigning problems for students to work on with paper and pencil. We often ask students to submit pictures of their work. Because feedback is such an important part of the learning process, using an iPad and the Apple pencil allows teachers to provide personalized, meaningful feedback for students’ work on math problems. We can also annotate aspects of their work and push their thinking.
