The repetitive nature of the journals, with the daily practice is already having a significant impact on their learning and retention.\r\nBeing able to practice important second-grade math concepts along with their math vocabulary is making a difference in the classroom. And having writing prompts has been a game changer for our writing. And the skills journals are amazing resources for our language art skills. When I first received the notice that it had been funded, I was overjoyed and couldn't wait for the materials to arrive. The moment the boxes came, it truly felt like Christmas morning in my classroom. I was so excited to open everything and start incorporating these new resources into our daily routines right away.\r\n\r\nThe impact has been immediate and meaningful. My students are already showing more motivation and enthusiasm toward learning. The simple addition of snacks they can earn through participation, effort, and positive behavior has made a big difference in our classroom culture. Many of my students come to school without having had a nutritious breakfast or lunch, and some face challenges at home that make consistent nutrition difficult. Having these snacks available gives them something to look forward to and helps them stay focused and engaged throughout the day. It's amazing how such a small gesture—something as simple as a snack—can create a sense of comfort and stability that helps them feel cared for and ready to learn.\r\n\r\nWhen I introduced the kinetic sand and stress toys, the excitement in the room was contagious. My students were so curious and eager to try them out. For some of my students who struggle with anxiety, attention challenges, or emotional regulation, these materials have been a game changer. The kinetic sand provides a calming sensory experience that helps them release frustration and regain focus. The stress toys have become a quiet, constructive outlet during lessons, helping students self-regulate without disrupting the flow of learning. One student told me, \"When I use the sand, my brain feels like it slows down so I can think better.\" Moments like that remind me just how powerful these tools can be.\r\n\r\nSince incorporating these materials, I've seen noticeable changes in both the atmosphere of the classroom and the students' individual progress. There's a sense of calm and focus that wasn't always there before. Students are beginning to recognize when they need a short sensory break and are using these strategies responsibly. They're learning that taking care of their emotions helps them take care of their learning, too.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, I plan to continue integrating these materials into our lessons and routines. The snacks will remain part of our positive reinforcement system, and I'll keep encouraging students to make healthy choices as they work toward their goals. The sensory tools will continue to be available throughout the day, especially during challenging academic tasks or transitions that can be stressful for some students.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has not only provided materials but has truly changed the way my students experience learning. You've helped create a classroom that feels safe, supportive, and full of opportunities for growth—both academically and emotionally.\r\n\r\nFrom the bottom of my heart, thank you for believing in my students and in me. Your kindness has made a lasting impact that goes far beyond the classroom walls.","fullyFundedDate":1760714135791,"projectUrl":"project/learning-tools-and-snacks/9565493/","projectTitle":"Learning Tools and Snacks","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Patterson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9179180_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1754699853194","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9179180"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_109194","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":null,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":28,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":64,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":24,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Not specified","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Weighted Average","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":57.9,"schoolId":109194,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about DaVinci Academy Elementary on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"DaVinci Academy Elementary","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/utah/utah-department-of-education/davinci-academy-elementary/109194"}
