My students thrive with multisensory learning! The wiggle stools allow them to get the movement they need in their bodies and still stay focused on their reading, our discussions, and journal writing. They’ll be able to stay involved and focused for longer periods of time. In addition, more senses can be used as class learning, traditionally given verbally, and taken in through the auditory system, can be supplemented with visual material on the dry erase/magnet board. Students and teacher can add pictures, vocabulary, instructions, thoughts, ideas, and more throughout class in a place that will be visible to everyone and allow group interaction. Learning can become visible on the new board! Now that our environment will be set up, our minds can soar to new places as we read and discuss our new Lily Huckleberry books. These books teach geographical vocabulary and offer cultural comparisons to allow the students to travel the world through books. For independent reading, the students have thrived on being able to read the Magic Treehouse books and are looking forward to continuing the journey with the Merlin Missions. They can travel throughout history to destinations all over the world, all while solving mysteries and delighting in their ability to independently and fluently read!
