Through stories and hands-on materials, they are learning important life skills such as recognizing facial expressions, naming emotions, problem-solving, and understanding how their actions affect their classmates.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is warm, interactive, and discussion-based. During read-alouds, students gather together to listen, look closely at illustrations, and talk about characters' feelings and choices. They eagerly make connections to their own experiences, share when they have felt \"a little spot of anger\" or \"a big feeling of worry,\" and practice using kind words to express themselves. The books have become a natural starting point for conversations about friendship, calming strategies, and how to handle strong emotions.\r\n\r\nSeveral students, especially those who sometimes struggle to express themselves or regulate their emotions, have shown a strong connection to these new books and tools. They are drawn to the plush emotion characters and storytelling kits, using them during center time to act out feelings and situations. These students now participate more in discussions, confidently naming their emotions and seeking strategies from the stories when they feel overwhelmed. The materials have helped them feel understood and supported, turning reading time into a safe space where their feelings matter and their voices are heard.","fullyFundedDate":1761327282796,"projectUrl":"project/tools-to-tame-the-wiggles-and-worries/9661323/","projectTitle":"Tools to Tame the Wiggles and Worries","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Kim","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4041706"},{"teacherId":9627654,"projectId":9785845,"letterContent":"Thank you for helping me get this project funded for my classroom! Because of you, my students now have access to a class set of magnetic letter tiles that we use almost every day during reading and word work time.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, my students excited to open the box and see what was inside. They want to knwo what the tiles were for and immediately wanted to explore them. The students couldn't wait to start building words. They were amazed that the tiles were magnetic and weren't slidding around once placed on the mart. Seeing their enthusiasm reinforced how powerful hands-on learning can be, especially for young readers.\r\n\r\nWe have been using the magnetic letter tiles in small groups and whole-class lessons to practice encoding sounds into words. I saw a lightbulb go off for some of my struggling readers and writers during a phonics lesson when students were asked to build CVC words. They were able to successfully spell and read words by manipulating the tiles. Watching their confidence grow as they independently produce words makes them want to learn more and proudly shared their words with classmates.\r\n\r\nOur next steps include using the magnetic letter tiles to build multisyllable words, practice word families, and explore spelling patterns during guided reading. This tool is also helping students during story writing. They ask to use the letter tiles to help sound out words that are difficult for them to spell. These tools will continue to support our literacy instruction throughout the year as students grow into confident readers and writers.\r\n\r\nThank you for giving our students the opportunity to learn, explore, and build confidence in their reading skills.
