With the materials we received we were able to study the effects of electricity in the natural world and how we interact with it in everyday life. My students had the opportunity to experience the effects of electrical charges with demonstrations and hands on experiences in the classroom. The students learned how to work with electrical charges safely and effectively. The students throughly engaged in these lessons and learned science in a more meaningful way. \r\n\r\n As an experienced science teacher this type of instruction is most effective and resonates with students more then just reading or writing about the scientific principals we were studying. \r\n\r\n Once more thank you so much we are grateful for your contribution to the education of our future innovators and creators who will solve the next generation's challenges.","fullyFundedDate":1767727176906,"projectUrl":"project/science-is-better-done-than-talked-about/9979531/","projectTitle":"Science is Better Done Than Talked About","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Tomlin","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9347649_orig.jpg?crop=720,720,x226,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723584806436","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9347649"},{"teacherId":8135286,"projectId":10000729,"letterContent":"While this Nevada government grant has provided valuable funding for classroom technology, the process of getting those resources into students' hands has revealed some significant challenges. Delays tied specifically to the Donors Choose procurement and fulfillment process have slowed implementation, limiting how quickly students can benefit from approved funding. In addition, rising costs have reduced the overall purchasing power of the funds. In many cases, these higher costs appear to be connected to restricted vendor options, where required purchasing channels limit access to more competitively priced alternatives. As a result, identical or comparable items are often unavailable from lower-cost suppliers, further reducing the percentage of funding that ultimately reaches the classroom in the form of usable materials and equipment.\r\n\r\nFrom a classroom perspective, the impact is noticeable. When funding is approved, there is an expectation that students will quickly benefit from those resources. However, extended timelines and inflated pricing can limit both the quantity and quality of materials students receive. Greater transparency in how funds are distributed and spent—and a closer look at procurement processes—could help ensure that more of the grant directly supports student learning.\r\n\r\nDespite these challenges, the technology that has made it into the classroom is making a positive difference. Students are engaging in hands-on learning, applying academic concepts in meaningful ways, and building skills that prepare them for future opportunities. Maximizing the percentage of funding that directly reaches students would significantly strengthen the overall impact of programs like this.","fullyFundedDate":1768410280711,"projectUrl":"project/3d-dreams-bringing-stem-projects-to-lif/10000729/","projectTitle":"3D Dreams: Bringing STEM Projects to Life","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Hambleton","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8135286_orig.jpg?crop=1553,1553,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1634489313164","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8135286"},{"teacherId":8172615,"projectId":9995807,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, my 7th grade math students have been able to use these treats and prizes as part of our daily classroom routines and incentive system. I use them to recognize students who stay on task, show growth, and persevere through challenging concepts like solving equations and working with rational numbers. One of my favorite moments was seeing students light up with excitement when they realized their effort was being noticed—it immediately boosted engagement and created a more positive classroom environment.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, students were genuinely excited and motivated. Even small rewards made a big difference in encouraging participation and focus, especially during more challenging lessons. It helped shift the classroom culture to one where effort and improvement are celebrated.\r\n\r\nAs we continue through the school year, students are building on these skills by applying what they've learned to more complex, multi-step problems and real-world math situations. While many donors use high-powered technology at home, in a middle school math setting, technology is most effective when it removes \"math anxiety\" and allows for exploration. These calculators do exactly that; they act as a bridge between a student's conceptual understanding and the final result. Instead of getting bogged down in long-form manual division or decimal placement—where a small arithmetic error can derail a complex multi-step problem—my students can now focus on the higher-level logic of Algebra and Geometry.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting thing for the students was simply having a tool that felt \"professional\" and uniform. In our classroom, having a matching set means that when I demonstrate a key sequence on the board, every student can follow along simultaneously. They no longer feel like they are struggling with a \"lesser\" tool if they couldn't afford their own. There was a genuine buzz in the room during the first lab where we used the calculators to find square roots and exponents; for them, it felt like they had been upgraded to a higher level of mathematical \"power.\"\r\n\r\nThere is one group of students in particular—those who have historically struggled with foundational multiplication and division—who have warmed to this technology the most. Before these calculators arrived, these students would often \"shut down\" when faced with large numbers because they were afraid of making a basic mistake. Now, I see them participating in class discussions with newfound confidence. They know that as long as they understand the logic of the problem, the calculator will support them with the accuracy. It has turned \"I can't do this\" into \"Let me check my work,\" which is a massive win for their academic growth.\r\n\r\nThank you for providing the tools that allow my students to see themselves as capable mathematicians!","fullyFundedDate":1768688999500,"projectUrl":"project/equipping-advanced-math-students-calcul/9997858/","projectTitle":"Equipping Advanced Math Students: Calculators, Whiteboards & Engagement Tools","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Sinrod","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10083326_orig.jpg?crop=1536,1536,x238,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1752790991158","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrssinrod"},{"teacherId":9347649,"projectId":9661910,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting my Classes with materials to do science rather than just talk about it. Too often we just try to teach students from the front of the class and expect that they all learn the same way. However as a Science teacher of more than 14 years I have come to understand that in order to really reach students we need a multi faceted approach to solving science mysteries through research, investigation and trial and error. when we do that we find they are much more engaged and find they might actually like science and all the doors it can open for them. \r\n If as educators we can take a second and step back in reflection over the years we were students more often than not it was the teacher or teachers that were most creative that caught our attention and sparked our curiosity. After all, what is Science if not the desire to solve some of the planet's most challenging issues?\r\n With the stated I am most satisfied when my Students have that moment in class when they discover those hidden secrets that make the amazing world around us less confusing and the \"light\" comes on in their understanding. I believe that this happens with hands on lessons that require the students themselves to solve, measure, reveal, and create with real hands on science. The dry erase boards and markers are now a core part of our lessons, allowing students to actively participate, think through ideas in real time, and take risks without fear of making mistakes. Students use the boards to brainstorm, practice writing responses, analyze texts, and solve problems together. One of my favorite moments was watching hesitant students confidently raise their boards during class discussions—every student had a voice, and every answer mattered.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the excitement was immediate. Students eagerly helped organize the supplies and couldn't wait to start using them. The colorful markers and personal whiteboards made learning feel more interactive and engaging, and students took pride in having tools that felt \"official\" and empowering. The energy in the room shifted—students were more focused, more willing to participate, and genuinely excited to learn.\r\n\r\nThese resources continue to support our current and upcoming lessons, especially collaborative activities, formative assessments, and quick checks for understanding.
