With technology as integrated into our lives as it is, many students are losing fine motor still as they are just touching a screen one handed or using their thumbs while texting or gaming. Many students struggle with typing and mouse skills as there are apart of students fine motor skills, and with only using two fingers those skills and muscles are not being used as often. With the use of the donated mice, students are not only learning the coordination of moving the mouse, clicking and scrolling, they are practicing and using those needed mine motor skills and developing those muscles further. \r\nAs my students are practicing more with the mice, they are developing those important skills within the classroom. They are also finding that through the use of the mouse, many programs and features are easier to use then trying to struggling with a touch screen or track pad. My younger students are excited when they discover the use of the mouse helps greatly with the various learning games and learning platforms we use within our school. As they see the muscles moving in their forearms as they use the mice, they are excited to see the muscles move and flex, asking me to look at the new muscles and skills they are developing. \r\nAs we learning with our technology, students are also understanding taking care of our equipment is important. As students use the mesh bags to store their mice, they understand it's important to keep the cords neat and are excited when they are not a tangled mess. The kids love the different sounds so it makes learning basic music theory much more fun. The piano is also used to teach private lessons at the end of the day. The guitar books gave our 4th graders a solid curriculum to follow and tips to solve musical puzzles by themselves.
