For students from low-income households who are simultaneously learning a new language and adjusting to school routines, this kind of hands-on access is transformational.\r\n\r\nThe realia materials — fruits, vegetables, play foods, clothing, animal figurines, and vehicle counters — have already made language come alive in our classroom. Instead of simply hearing the word \"apple,\" students can hold one. Instead of memorizing \"shirt\" or \"boots,\" they can sort, name, and describe them. These concrete experiences build vocabulary faster, strengthen comprehension, and give our students the confidence to speak in full sentences.\r\n\r\nOur new instructional table, chairs, and curtain room divider have also made a tremendous difference. Sharing classroom space previously meant frequent distractions and limited room for small-group instruction. Now, our students have a defined, welcoming space where they can focus, engage, and feel secure. For young multilingual learners, that sense of safety and structure is critical for language development.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, your support communicates something powerful to our students: they matter. Historically underfunded classrooms like ours often operate with limited resources, but your donation ensured that our 40 kindergarten learners have equitable access to the tools they need to succeed.\r\n\r\nYou have helped create an immersive, focused environment where language grows naturally through play, exploration, and connection. Thank you for investing in our students' voices, confidence, and futures.","fullyFundedDate":1705171591723,"projectUrl":"project/really-cool-realia-for-really-smart-stud/8119008/","projectTitle":"Really Cool Realia for Really Smart Students","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Diaz","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4882755_orig.jpg?crop=1250,1250,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1674003491142","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/carolyn-diaz"},{"teacherId":202634,"projectId":9620405,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for these math resources!\r\n\r\nThe 3rd graders have loved playing many different multiplication games with the cards. They learned about the commutative property of multiplication using the lines and circles cards. They practiced drawing multiplication models using the multiplication capture cards. It is wonderful to hear their cheers of \"Yes!\" when they see on our class agenda that we will be having a multiplication lesson.\r\n\r\nThe 5th graders have been doing a fantastic job learning about equivalent fractions using the fraction supplies. They have been playing Uncover with the fraction tiles and using vocabulary like equivalent, numerator, denominator, and whole to explain how they knew what pieces could be exchanged fairly for what other pieces. The anxiety about working with fractions that they expressed earlier this year has disappeared thanks to these supplies.","fullyFundedDate":1764717299300,"projectUrl":"project/math-without-fear/9620405/","projectTitle":"Math Without Fear","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Apple","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp202634_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1539974488084","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/l-apple"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_24056","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":299,"numTeachers":24,"percentFrplEligible":58,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":50,"percentWhite":5,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":40,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"12.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":41.0,"schoolId":24056,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Cleveland Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Cleveland Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/district-of-columbia/dc-public-schools/cleveland-elementary-school/24056"}
