The Dual-Language Program began years ago in our school. The program has been very successful. The students and parents are very excited because they have the opportunity to become bilingual. Our students are from very low-income families. Ninety percent of our students are on free or reduced lunch.
One of the things that help students learn a second language is to have a lot of exposure to visuals. As a bilingual teacher, my students come with very limited exposure in Spanish. A good way to reach the students is to present them a lot of pictures. We have a camera, but we do not have ink cartridges to be able to print not only pictures but also send home information to the parents. Unfortunately, the budget for materials at school are very limited and it is getting very difficult for teacher when we do not have the necessary materials to give students the opportunity to understand the language by utilizing visuals as well as making connection with the language that is spoken.
The pictures will enable our students to make text to self / text to world connections while exploring in the class and participating in field trips.
Our project requires 2 color and 1 black ink cartridges.
We know that our students will benefit when they are able to make visual sense of the content while we are instructing.
Thanking you in advance for fulfilling our dream of utilizing pictures and increasing visuals cues in our classrooms to promote language /academic development.
